Who's going to F1 race?
Is it to early to post up a who's who of attendance for the Austin F1 race? Me and two other Floridians are heading over sitting in section 5 grandstands and attending the PCA Saturday Bar-B-Q, who else going?

Full disclosure: I enjoy F1 on TV and the purity of the sport, despite all the drama. I think it rocks. I will not be attending the events here in the US and did not ever attend the Indianapolis events even though I'm only two hours away.....you get a better look on TV frankly
All that said, why do promotors now believe that this will attract sufficient fans, to the extent of spending a gazillion bucks on new facilities, when it has never flown here before?. Please help me.

Rich, I agree with the sounds and smells part. As for the other, if the Indianapolis Motor Speedway couldn't make it work.....?? And as for Baltimore, you can at least use the streets again, right. I do wonder.

F-1 in the U.S.
I, too, am a major F-1 fan, but I'll pass on Austin and attend the New Jersey street race in 2013. Granted, NJ is not Monaco or Valencia, but the Big Apple is, well, the Big Apple.
After attending several of the European F-1 races over the years, plus the 1st Indy race and Montreal, I feel F-1 attendance is really enhanced when coupled with the ambiance and attractions of a nearby major metro area. If many others agree, COTA will end up struggling in future years. We'll see.

Alas, I'm stuck in the F1 glory days of my youth. (The Lauda-Hunt championship year was my first actively following F1.) Guess I kind of lost true interest after the early-mid '90s. Though I do actively follow the sport.
So unless I had off-the-chart access, zero interest in spending the money.
Anyone remember the final Phoenix race was outdrawn by the Ostrich race elsewhere locally?

I usually go to Motreal every year and will pass on Austin this November. But I'm rooting for it to be a success. Austin knows how to throw a party! If all goes well and the logistics of getting that many people through a tiny airport and a city with not enough hotel beds work out maybe I'll go next year.

We've got T5 grandstand seats as well. Not the biggest F1 fan, I'm sure it will not top our trip to Le Mans in '10. Id rather go to an ALMS race for sure. But, I've not seen F1 in person, it is the first race at the only dedicated circuit the US has ever seen, and who's to say if it will continue?
I'm sure the three days of people watching and just being there will be worth the price of admission.
