Test drive the 930 turbo before you decide. The turbo lag is brutal as is the sudden power delivery.

I have driven one of these before and you are correct. It did not really bother me and when it does kick in it is pretty awesome.

If the 85 is red, the owner is a straight shooter....

With red dash and black interior? Saw it on Craigslist and think it is in northern va or Maryland. Do you live in VB?

Adding the link and I left a message for him as he did call my cell yesterday I think.

Yes, that one. He's in MD up in my neck of the woods. All his cars are usually in mint condition. He's had several for sale on here over the last few years.

I live in MD and took that pic in VB a couple weeks ago. Infact I'm suppose to be drivinig there now, but school re-opens on Monday for the kids and have to take care of a few last minute things, so change of plans..... I want to check out Sandbridge next year..

Default Why a 993 over a much newer car?

A 993 has a very limited set of known maintenance / repair issues, most of which can be resolved in a DIY effort. The newer cars have shown to have more complex issues several of which are car life ending in terms of cost to rectify. I believe the premiums paid for a 993 have to do with the type of prospective owner who buys these cars who plans to hold the car for a very long time well beyond any warranty period.

i'd have to say all vintage porsches have gone up in price over the past 6 months. Look at the 356 market, pre 73 911 market, post 73 911 market, 964 market, and 993 market. I think a lot of it have to do with Dr Porsche death early this year as his mark was on all of these cars. Used to be able to find a decent 964 under $20k, not any more.

I agree with my fellow Richmonder Andy on this one. I'm hopeful that I'll have the car for many years and be able to pass it to my son or daughter at some point. I always think it's cool when a car is passed through family members for many years. The 993 seems to me to be a perfect car to do that with.

With every new 911, the car is moving very quickly away from the 993 in terms of simplicity and pure driving experience. Yes the new 991 is a fantastic car but it is so modern and sophisticated, it only has the name and engine placement in common with the 993. Some Porsche owners are looking to capture the essence of the original cars but with the handling and ride of a slightly more modern car. This is where the 993 comes in. It has roots in the past with a few toes in the modern area, plus the styling is considered the pinnacle of Porsche design. With Porsche buyers old and new looking to buy a 993, the price drives up. In a recent poll here, the average age of owners is much lower than in the past, due to more affordable prices compared to 5-8 years ago. This helps to firm up the lower end of the market for first time buyers.
