I have never seen Idemitsu for sale on any of the suppliers shelves that I frequent - it might be for sale via internet.

So what are the advantages of this oil, especially for Subaru? What makes it "Superior" over the others, such as Brad Penn, Redline, Swepco, Motul, etc?

My wife drives a 2010 Forester, standard engine, and I have been doing oil changes every 3000 miles with filter and Mobil 1 - the oil usually looks pretty clean when it comes out, but I have never had it tested.

cheers,

Mike

I don't even know if my Ridgeline has any oil in it. Although, it should-I paid the dealer $43 to change it last week.

Funny, I won't let anyone touch my p-cars, save for bodywork or paint, if ever needed. I don't have time to work on the "civilian hardware" around here.

We are not in the aftermarket (I.e. Napa, Pep Boys etc ). We work in hand with Subaru to develop the lubricants for each model whether it's the 0-20, 5-30 or ATF. There truly us a difference. We make factory and service fills for most of the Japanese OEM's. I really can only give an overview of the formulations as I am in charge of the US Distributor network and not in sales or manufacturing

Anyone who can google "UOA" or "VOA" knows that there is (still) a difference between products.

8 years later, proof that oil threads are the cockroaches of the automotive forum world - they can't be eradicated!

I think this is a US phenomenon. So is the obsession with oil change intervals and exceeding factory recommendations. At least that is my observation since moving here from the UK. I don't recall the same enthusiasm being applied there to brand / type / intervals in quite the same way.

That's what I run. One change every year. About 2-3k miles driven in a good year.

"WTF is up with oil debates?"
People love to espouse their opinions.
Makes little difference if they are grounded in science / reality.

Must of us like to hear ourselves talk / type.

Ciao

ps. great job porto911
