Would like to know the 993 Forum's opinion on the value of this Ocean Blue/Classic Gray 38000 mile C2S is in the current market.
Willow Auto Sales in Chicago has it listed for $55,900.
Thanks for your thoughts.

Also, saw a very similar (maybe same) car in the June issue of the PCA Chicago Scene magazine listed for $43.5K.

I would say $50K is ALL the money for a retail dealer price. The other car at $43.5 .. if it's in as good a shape as this .. would be a VERY good deal .. almost what I'd consider 'wholesale' ..

I am pretty sure is the same car. The original owner has had it for sale for over a year. If I remember correctly he was from Libertyville ILL. He was asking 43K for it last year. He did mention the big scretch on the quarter panel and a few other things. It sounds like the scretch was just touched up by the dealer who has it at this time, therefore reflecting the 55K tag now.

If this is the same car as the one in Libertyville I'm disappointed if the individual could not sell his 97' C2S with 32K-38K miles for 43K on the open market. Scratch or no scratch -- original monroes or not -- that would have been a great deal IMHO.
At that money you could buy two of those instead of one Mexico Blue one......mothball one and daily drive the other one with $$ left over. Then in 5 years pull the mothballed car out, sell it for a profit that would essentially cover the cost of the daily driver one. Oh, my! Too much coffee for me this morning. LOL.

That is the "asking" price, so if it really is pristine as they say and you are serious about it, make an offer conditional on an inspection.
If some think it is priced too high, what is the lowest they have seen a C2S go for? Then factor in the high mileage of that bargain car, possible stories and the fact that it probably isn't original anymore, and the high 40s/low 50s of this C2S may look better.

Other than low mileage and a single owner, there is not very much unique about this car. As mentioned previously, it is a low optioned car. In its favor is the assumed fact that it is "stock", though that would be hard to really determine. I paid $34k for a 98 C2S that has high miles on it, and believe that I paid top price given the mileage of the car. But, it was the color and optioned package I was looking for. So, I will have to add about $15k to that price to zero time the engine and transmission. So, when I am done, I'll have about $50k in the car, but one that has been restored to a condition that should be superior to the current car under review. The suspension on my car had been replaced within 10k miles of my ownership and was upgraded to the Bilstein PSS system. And, my car had more OEM options and is the last model year for the 993, though I am not certain if that adds to value.
If you buy that logic, then $56K for a 97 is quite a bit high. I really believe that the original amount asked by the original owner was more realistic. With an asking of $43K, perhaps the car could have been bought for $40k (I'll bet the dealer paid less than that for it!). So, offering the car for $56k.....the car can probably be bought for a little over $50k which will net the dealer quite a nice return on his investment.
It also depends on the new owners intended useage. If he buys a 38k mile car and then intends to put only 50 miles a year on it.......he may be rewarded when he sells the car. However, I am of the class that says that owning these cars means driving them.......which is why I was not put off by a high mileage car when I bought mine. So, if you pay the premium for a low mileage car and then put 15k miles a year on it, you will see that premium quickly decay in value. So, why pay for it in the first place? Buy a car that has been properly maintained and driven correctly, and you will be the benefactor in the long run.
Just my two cents.

Thanks everyone for all of the great comments. My use for the car would be to enjoy it and drive it as much as possible, winters in Wyoming are pretty tough with salt and magnesium chloride on the roads. That still leaves the opportunity to drive the car 8000 to 9000 miles per year.

there is another discussion from a month ago about the C2S in Libertyville - see link below. I actually enquired about the car and the guy he had no records for the car since he owned it. I did not dig further as this seemed a little odd. Seems like it might be the same car that is now at Willow Auto Sales.
