I'd have to agree with this as they can be entertaining. Perhaps these people should just title the thread "I'm selling my car to the highest bidder, PM me your offer."

One doesn't have to read the post, or reply if you do. When I bought my tt I got my sense of its value largely from RLers. There are certainly far sillier posts than the "I'm thinking of" posts, and all of those make up a small percentage.

So what you're saying is that you're thinking about people who are thinking about selling their Porsches?

I don't even read them. If they really wanted to know, and weren't lazy dufusi, they could get the info themselves. Why should we do their work for them?

i think its 'dufi' btw, but i dont mind those threads too much, its sort of an up to the minute debate on the market.

On another forum that I belong to, the mods setup a area called "Pricing & Dealer Discussion" for such threads as well as others like "Is it worth what I paid?", Craigslist finds and other types of advice.

If you remove (which, I guess, would mean an actual functional moderation of moving offtopic threads to non-technical forums...):
  • What's it worth threads
  • My Car Is So Special Because X threads
  • Image X 993 threads

...how many threads are actually on the first page or ten?

I feel that Rennlists power as a technical resource is nowdays, sadly, the vast accumulated data that can be accessed via the search, not the online discourse with other enthusthiasts.

I'm just probably just bitter .

It's not a big deal to me to see the posts. I like reading them and seeing where pricing falls on my car currently. If were to sell, I'd probably have a figure in mind and run it by you guys here first to tell me if I'm in the ballpark or just crazy. I'd hate to underprice the car and leave money on the table.

That's the problem I have. Many of these posts never mention a price from beginning to end. Starts with "I'm thinking of selling" then a few pages later "sold". Well somewhere the car ended up being for sale and the rules here state you must post a price when listing anything for sale. Unless you're the one buying or selling said car, nothing has been learned. No, neither party has to list the final selling price but at least if there's an asking price listed, we can get an idea.

EDIT: I fully realize that privacy is something to respect but if someone decides to use this forum as a tool to sell or promote the sale of whatever they are selling, they should also respect the rules of this site.

I actually have no problem with members doing "what's it's worth?" posts. it is a for sale post to a large degree and the rest of us are within their right to tell the poster to put a price on.

What I have a problem with is non-members doing this.
