BTW, I was reading the TireRack test article and they mentioned the Kumho Ecsta LE (another max-perf summer tire that was tested in the same mix) ...anyone try that one? As I had said, I had the MXs for several sets and was very satisfied with them, but as Mike
(nile13) had accurately pointed out, that was quite some time ago and I want a newer offering ...especially since our 993s tend to wear rears to fronts at a 2:1 rate so I want tires that will still be around. Hmmm, did I just talk myself into the Hankook?

Thanks all ...I appreciate the timely recommendations!

I bought a set of Kumho Ecstas a few months ago for my new 18" TT wheels (thanks again, Andreas!). I drive mostly back roads of the second and third order, some highway and no track. For me they work great, very low noise yet still precise in spirited driving. Only maybe 1k on them so far so no data on longevity but I expect longer than the Bridgestones I had before. Hope this helps!

X2, unless there is sidewall damage or you drove on the flat for too long.

I've had the Sumi II's and the III's...and prefer the II's, which last longer. For street driving, I can't tell the difference.

Fronts are prob around than 70% worn. And rears I was going to try and "use up" the last remaining, oh, 15-20% or tire life. But the tire shop (Americas Tire/Discount Tire) with whom I have the road hazard deal says they are not allowed to patch any tire beyond a certain wear point. So yeah, I know what you're talking about ...I've done it before on the 993 so am not averse to a patch. Basically just trying to hold off on a major purchase till after Christmas, but unfortunately circumstances have thwarted my plans

Oh, and thanks for the feedback on the Ecsta LEs. That opens up another possibility ...I appreciate it!

+1 on the Hankooks V12 too.

Been driving them pretty hard this summer and so far it's been a great performer.

Have the Sumi IIIs right now and very pleased with them. Funny thing though, put them on a MB 350 sedan and did not like them. They were not responsive. May try the Hankooks next time on the Pcar. Anyone gone from the Sumis to the 'kooks?

I went to the V12s from Yokohama Advan Neovas (admittedly a higher-perf tire) and was rather surprised at the amount of tread squirm and "wish-washiness" from the V12s. It may be a softer sidewall as well, as mentioned above, but the front-end feel was much less positive. This may have been exacerbated by my PSS9s, pinned tie-rods, and Walrod bushings, which as a unit provide greatly improved steering feel and response.

I'll be trying out the Nitto NT05s next.

I just ordered a pair of tires from TireRack and made a specific point not to use Damon here. He conveniently _never_ answers any questions regarding tires when it doesn't lead to a direct sale. Just FYI.

Oh, the _only_ reason i ordered from TireRack is because they are now exclusive dealer for StarSpecs. And they sent me a pair of a year and a half old tires which is an issue I'm planning to address with them.

So caveat emptor.
