You guys with the Carbon/Aluminum shift ****....
What pieces go between the gear shift lever and the gear shift **** for NVH issues? I ordered the parts for the regular lever (93142411100 and 99342429900) and neither will clearly fit inside the shift ****. The buzz is driving me crazy....
Next up is the bushings and then maybe the angular joint/guide tube. But, I'm now officially throwing parts at a problem and hoping a solution sticks.

Are you talking about the 996 one or the 993 one?
I just tightened the set screw on my 996 one, nothing on the lever. No noises.

Ok... I also lived with this for a while.. The bolt will eventually loosen up, and noise comes back. In the end the only thing that solved the problem is.... Floss... Thats right.. Floss.. place the floss between the leather and aluminum piece... it took me a few try's to get the end piece tucked in... but it worked.. I used the mint one.. so it has a nice side effect of smelling nice on hot days...

OK. So the 10mm nut was not loose. Never has been. I've tried jamming some rubber between the metal lever and the ?aluminum? shift **** shaft. Better but not gone. Floss went where? Between the external aluminum/carbon shift handle and the leather?? Or do you mean between the shift lever and the shaft inside the shift ****??? Pics?
Should I consider that maybe there is a major imbalance somewhere in the system (engine, tranny, drivetrain) that is the ROOT CAUSE? Or is it normal to have a decent amount of buzz in the shift lever anyways?

Mine has a piece of that black sticky material stuff laid on it like an upside down "U". There is also screw (allen if I remember correctly) that needs to be tight.

On the 996 style the nut is only a jam nut, but what holds it tight to the lever is an allen screw that the jam nut is threaded onto. Tighten the allen screw in the center of the nut first then tighten the jam nut down.
The floss trick is for the 993 style.
Please post a pic of the style you have, thanks.
edit for added picture of the 996 02 carbon/alum ****, is it like this?

NO! The whole **** comes off. Same **** I have. Just had it off 2 weeks ago to install leather console. Order the SSK and lets get that on there and go from there.

I have the same **** .. the 993 Carbon/Aluminum look shifter that came on my car from the factory. IIRC when Darin did my RS short shift and goldenrod install, it was friction fit, not having a set screw. Mine only has 30K miles on it and is very snug and tight with no vibration or noise .. I'd bet whatever kind of black rubber stuff is wedged up in there that the shift rod pushes into is toast and that's the part you need to order and replace. Is there anything like that illustrated in the PET?

I have the 993 aluminum/carbon shift **** as delivered from the factory. There is an allen screw that holds in onto the shifter. It is not a friction fit. Just pop the base of the leather boot out and pull it over the shift **** and you will see the screw.
