Default Jack *** question

Hi guys,

is it ok to use a 2x4 between the jack stand and car when resting the vehicle?

I'm not able to find a flat top jack stand so a guy suggested I use a 2x4 wood piece to act as the flat top...I'm just afraid the u-shaped top of the jack stand will eat thru the wood and eventually hit the car.

thanks

I use hockey pucks--they are a great fit both for the top of my jack stands and to the jack points on the car.

That said, I don't think the jack stand is going to eat through a 2X4.

My craftsman u-shaped jack stands slot in fine to the holes on the rear jack points, and I've had no problems with the front ones either, as they kind of grip the front jack points as long as I place them carefully. I would be more worried about whatever I had between the stand and car slipping out.

If you haven't yet bought the stands, these are pretty popular around here:

The only problem w/ wood is it can split if not used correctly,
Here's the assortment of pieces I use, i love the steel blocks that lock into the oe lifting slots, Don't know how well they might work w/ a jack though

I got the SLX5000 on sale at Home Depot.

it just fits the 991 with barely an inch to spare. Had to buy the extension rails to just barely fit the Civic Type R.

Seems QuickJacks really skimps on length. I’ll have to continue using jack stands with the minivan as the jack point spread on that vehicle are far apart. Think they now offer a model that will work but I’m not buying multiple QuickJacks to accommodate different vehicles.

This is the best solution to use with your current Jack stands, the Seven Sparta Jack stand adapters on Amazon.

Don’t use wood. That’s a mistake. Could slip or split.

Hockey pucks work well.

Given how valuable these vehicles have become and how dangerous it is working under one on jack stands, I would suggest just doing it right from the get go. Buy the esco stands and be done with it.
