Default Motorsound intake

Installed by the PO. Sounds pretty good, but I have a question about modifying it.
The interior portion of the intake horn seems to block a large section of the filter, or is it my imagination?

What ramifications are there to trimming the interior portion?

None that I noticed. I removed mine and installed the RS "cold air" intake in place of the chrome intake trumpet.

Did you see any performance improvement or was it just sound?

I seriously doubt there was any performace improvement and as I said, no sound difference that I noticed...But like my muffers, it looked good on paper and "buttdyno" reported that I feel confident I did hurt performance. cold intake air=hp. non-obstructed free flow exhaust=hp

But my car already had the factory motor sound option....

I believe its just the turbo scoop thingie, but it only works on fixed wing cars I think.

There is no restriction in the Motorsound cover. It does add some nice intake sound when you're on it, but that's about it.

Motorsound box does absolutely nothing to the performance, but does sound good - deeper induction roar, especially under hard acceleration. You can get exactly the same effect by drilling large (1" or more) holes in the air box cover. I've got a feeling there might be the outline of the holes on the inside of standard cover. The chrome intake pipe of the proper motorsound box also adds a nice touch though.

In a related mail about the motor sound cover, Steve Weiner mentioned that he noticed a ~ 2hp increase on the dyno. Hardly anything but better then nothing.
Thought I bring this up.

I have the Motorsound cover simply because the standard cover is not available separately; the one on the car wasn't that nicely drilled by someone in the past and I wanted to replace it for that reason.

Correct. Fixed wing is needed. However the RS sintake scoop is made out of such cheap this plastic, trimming to fit standard decklid is an easy task, but kind of defeats the purpose at speed since your spoiler would be up, creating a gap to possibly suck in engine heat.

Really looking at the internal trumpet of the cover. Post 7, item 3 see how it extends into the box? Compare the profile to the filter, #2, it seems to overlap the filter area quite a bit, and is pretty close to the filter.

It could be desgined like this to create a sort of venturi effect to suck air from the clutch through the black rubber pipe and thus get clutch disk dust out.

I wouldn't give this any thought. Even if trimming it or whatever would result in a gain, it would be so small you'd never feel it. I'd trust the porsche engineers on this one.
