Default Moving to the Denver area ....

Used the search feature and found some info but still have several questions ...

Moving to Westminster, CO ...

Please suggest a good Independent shop ... 993 911 coupe ... I do a lot myself but what about those bigger projects or the mysterious gremlin issue.

What about alignment and corner balance ... fine for now but looking ahead.

Suggest a good upholstery shop ... may recover leather or maybe replace seats altogether.

Is there a wheel refinisher in the Denver area ... 18" NB Turbo Twists.

A shop to repair driver side door strap ... original repair broke loose and needs a proper repair.

Any help is much appreciated ... thanks in advance.

I live in Superior which is next to Boulder, Louisville, and west of Westminster a couple miles. Welcome to the neighborhood!

My favorite independent shop is EuroSport Automotive in Arvada just a few miles south of Westminster. Excellent reputation, Porsche specialist, big menu of services, from small to big, alignment and corner balance. I just had them do a steering rack, check valve on Turbo, slave and accumulator, plugs, oil change..Going back for a suspension replacement..alignment and corner balance.

Another option is Randy at Boulder Autowerks. Another Porsche specialist, but only 1 lift. Tougher to get in, and menu isn't as diverse. Quality of work is good.

Not sure on upholster shop, wheel refinisher or check strap. I'll be watching this thread for recommendations for myself.

Cheers!

Tony

I am in Louisville. FYI August 10 we will be having a Porsche social w/food and then walk downtown to see Gregg Rolie (ex Santana/Journey). If you want to come please PM.

I did not find an independent shop that could do everything...I have been using Prestige Porsche...price wise I think they are very competitive with the indies...they offer 15% off labor and 10% off parts except tires...they even let me buy shocks elsewhere and installed them...their tire prices were essentially the same as Tire Rack...Dave the Service Manager is an ex-wrench and the head tech knows 993s very well. They are in Lakewood. I did talk to Randy who is in Boulder. He seemed like a nice guy...does not do alignment as I recall...also had a bunch of kids working on their car is what is a very small shop...could not see leaving my car there. I also talked to several long term indies shops with good reps...very vague on pricing.

No ref for upholstery shop.

Spec Wheels did a set of hollow twists for me...you can stop by and check them out...I thought they came out perfect.

Door strap call Dave at Apex Auto Body in Lakewood...if they will not do it or Dave cannot give you a good recommendation let me know.

I've had them restore the sport interior of my BMW 635CSi and they did a wonderful job. I wouldn't hesitate to have them work on future interior and I always recommend them.

For upholstery, the premier shop in the Denver area is Auto Weave. They have 2 locations, one in Arvada and one in Lakewood near Prestige Porsche. I can't recommend them enough.

+1 on the recommendation of Prestige. Dave Stribling is the service manager and is an aircooled guy. He has an SC and a 930. One of his techs does nothing but aircooled, and has been working there since before the 993 was born. They did the alignment and some difficult maintenance for my 993. Service was excellent and the price was comparable to indy shops in the area.

Eurosport Automotive in Arvada is also a great recommendation.

Also +1 on the recommendation for Spec Wheel. They restored some phone dials for me and they looked brand new.

Auto Weave redid the headliner in my Land Rover. They are superb. Just checking out their workshop is like a trip through an automotive museum. They work on everything from Model T's to Lamborghinis.

Kiwi01,

Welcome to CO! I've used the following independents and dealerships with good success.

Storz Garage (Denver): mostly oil changes
Eurosport: (Englewood): corner balance
Stevinson Porsche (Englewood): sun-roof repair, A/C, alignment

As my workload has picked up recently, I don't have the time to take my car to multiple shops for specific items. I have a few upcoming repairs that I am going to let Stevinson handle. FWIW, they have two Porsche Gold Meisters technicians (todd Rigg & Jesse Adamy) at their facility. I've heard from others that Todd works solely on the air cooled models.

I think I need to think about getting a respray on my car. Guards Pink is not sitting too well with me anymore. I really wanted to drive the C4 in the snow and if I do that, I'll probably just leave it pink for awhile. Still undecided...

Thanks again for all of the referrals ... things have settled down from the move and I've had a chance to visit a few of the the shops ... all of them had some pluses. I think I'm going to go with Dave at Apex in Lakewood. He took me on a tour of his shop ... the work he does is excellent, and he had a number of 993's on hand. He can do the work on the door stay and the rest should be easy. He will use Auto Weave for the seats ... so I should get just about everything I wanted done. I'll let you know how it turns out.

Kiwi,

Are you going get thee door fixed from the outside or cut a hole to weld from the inside of the A-pillar? I really wouldn't mind a neat fillet weld on the outside with some touch up paint afterwards. I have been quoted $500 for the "proper" fix, but I am also looking for a good place to do an "improper" fix with the fillet weld. Any suggestions?

Thanks,
SHS

+1 for Dave @ Prestige Porsche/Audi.
Re: my 993, wifes Boxster and the family Audi UrS6 kombi.

As a P-car owner for decades (914, 911 (3.2), 944, etc) I've used several of the talented Denver/Boulder area independents, many of which are good to very good. Like anything its a relationship that's essential. Additionally there's Master Tech (National Award / Air Cooled models) Todd Rigg at Stevenson Porsche/Jaguar. Truth be told when Todd came in 1st in the PCNA sponsored national Tech competition there were no H20 911's... Nice to have a factory backed air cooled specialist in the house.

Dave's a good egg.

Just picking up on this thread, sorry for the late reply....

I have used Eisenbud's for many things over the years with great sucess. Recently he did an alignment on the 993tt for me without issue. If you can tolerate a slightly dirty shop and John's (Eisenbud) sorta "Mad Scientist" mentality, he's a great guy with a TON of Porsche knowledge.

I'll also give Autoweave a thumbs up. They redid the seats in our 356 and they came out simply beautiful.

For body work, I can't say enough good things about SVE in Broomfield. They have worked/painted multiple cars for me (and for friends) and thier attention to detail even on the most mudane cars is second to none.
