Default Crazy Delta between Smog Check Retest Data

Failed smog on the first try - a bottle of Jectron and Ventil Sauber and 100 mile spirited drive later...

Results #1 (Before)
HC (15mph/ 25mph)
Max 54/37
Meas 33/51

NO (15mph/ 25mph)
Max 430/717
Meas 357/50

Results #2 (After 'treatment')
HC (15mph/ 25mph)
Max 54/37
Meas 8/5

NO (15mph/ 25mph)
Max 430/717
Meas 0/0

I had expected a change in results...but nothing that dramatic. Now if only the DMV website was working so I could renew...

My thoughts exactly....to go from a high level of NO to zero seems ridiculous. I've often thought about the equipment and method of analysis....is the measuring equipment even calibrated the same between different smog stations...or between different bays of a facility? If I cut the head off a chicken and dance around wearing a grass skirt on a Monday after the first full moon, will my NO readings drop an extra 25%?

Seems like hocus pocus....I will say, that Jectron and Ventil Sauber stuff seems to work magic though!

The equipment has to be calibrated every 3 days at least, and they use preset mixtures of gasses to perform the calibration, so it shouldn't be much different from one station to the next.
