Default can't get the battery out

I was going to do my preemptive battery ground cable swap (to see if that affected the intermittent starting issues). But the bolt on the batter hold down spins but does not come out. I tried everything -- I think. Anyone every have this problem and what is the solution?

You've applied upward pressure while trying to spin it out right?

Worst case, cut the head off and examine your options at that point.

I can't remember if there is a speednut under there (accessible at least)

Ink,

The bolt or nutcert is probably stripped or cross-threaded. Put a screwdriver under the hold-down flange and put some up leverage on it. That should give you enough bite on the threads to get them engaged. Replace the bolt and run a tap down into the nutcert before reassembling.

Tried the upward pressure and that doesn't work. Keep the suggestions coming. But, looks like cutting it off is the only option left....

No, can't retighten. And I applied A LOT of upward pressure in attempts to loosen (bent the bracket). I was going to try to grind it off (the bolt head), but my dremel tool wasn't up to the task. Looking like that's the only option left, though.

On the positive side, after taking off and then reconnnecting the battery cables (and the ground to body connection), the starting problems have not appeared. We'll see if that lasts....

Have you tried a impact gun? Apply pressure to the flange as described above and try to spin bolt off with the gun.

Cheers,
Joe

Impact gun did the trick! Thanks for the suggestion. Now, I have to figure out a new way to get the hold-down to bolt in. Hopefully a washer, nut and JB weld will do the trick.

Fantastic!

JB Weld should solve your problem. Try to avoid getting any on the threads of the nut and you should be home free.

Cheers,
Joe
