Looks like you have the updated pulley.

The big 96K service I'm guessing will be fast approaching if your driving lots.

Might not hurt to look at some of those "96K checklist" items when your in the shop again.

I know my belts were changed around 77K, from the previous owner's files 75-90K somehow involved so many repair items. Nothing huge just odd items consistently popping up.

Good luck with the fuel issues, that sounds like a top priority!

[QUOTE=BobbyT;9630619]"While you are in there" you may want to consider doing the pulley update. This was discussed at a 993 Tech Session at Tony Callas' Rennsport.

His is a '98... shouldn't need to update the pulley.

Sorry that happened cam's, I literally just went through the exact same thing with my fan/alt belts. They tore off at the same time while I was driving home going 60mph and were partially stuck through the AC belt.

Ugh...I was real upset, however, I just got the car back from "German excellence " a local porsche specialist shop and they did I great job fixing her up. I would have tackled it myself but with my schedule and the fact that I don't own the special 12 point porsche tool I had them take care of it. I was told by my buddy there that my distributor caps need to be replaced too, I guess when you close up on 70,000 miles certain parts tend to fail..hahaha.
Good luck Cam's, I love the way you've set up you're 993, it looks great man.

The "special tool" is just a triple square.

993 ownership is like a marriage...sometimes it gets tough but man you vowed to stick in there through thick and thin.

These niggling items are just that and won't last so hopefully my Porsche independent takes care of it all this week.

Rudy I won't sell...trust me.

Cam I could move to Dubai one day,
I own your same car.
I'm wondering if it's worth to ship her there or if the extreme hot weather get her old faster or A/C is not good enough?
do you have any advise?are there any meeting between old P owner?do you track race it?
Was the shipment(if any)expansive,difficult to plan,mede in a proper manner,any problem?
cheers

All air-cooled cars hate the warm summer temps. If you keep the car running at a stop in +46C weather the temp gauge slowly creeps up to the 10 o'clock position - not good. If you keep the car moving then by all means its fine and the temps are not any worse than in Italy or North America. I'm not planning on keeping my car here more than 1-year; if I was then I'd be looking at additional cooling measures.

The A/C works perfectly! Its a small cabin to cool.

I shipped my car from Casper Wyoming to Los Angeles (truck) then shared container from LA to Hong Kong to Dubai for $1900 U.S. all in.

Shipping from Italy would be considerably cheaper as Roll on Roll off vessels stop off in Italy enroute to Dubai. You will have to pay a importation duty of 5% of the insured value when bringing the car in.

There's the Porsche Club of the UAE however its quite expensive for what they offer by means as to track days. I don't track mine nor ever will. Yes, owners do get together but there's hardly any vintage or air cooled owners in this country as they never sold many of the 964 or 993's. Porsche's sales blossomed here with the 996 and every other series after that.

this was, so called,a quick reply.
thanks
For what I know, traffic jams are usual in peak hours,so I can't immagine not to get stuck in it...
My plans to live there are for longer time, but I was thinking to keep mine in Italy.
My concerns are also about the shops or dealer....they probably never worked in an ac motor.....very sacry!!
finally my fringe benefit don't include a garage box,but a terrace over the car...
so the sunny and hot weather could damage the interior leather,as the sand storm...

well I'm convincing myself to leave her in Italy...

but what a shame!!!

thank you again

Good call...I'm only here until next June latest so I was willing to put up with the terraced garage covering until then.

The dealers here know how to work on the cars but you'll find all parts come from Germany and not stocked locally.

Getting ready to change out my belts as well. Is the alternator pulley update really necessary? If so, I believe I need (2) of part # 993 106 268 01 which run around $50 each from either Autohausaz or Pelican Parts. Should I be purchasing any spacers, etc? (I already purchased the triple square 10mm special part--Sears has free shipping on a kit that includes many common sizes at around $30 total).

osugasman,
There is a Snap-On Bluepoint 12pt socket for about $7. I haven't seen many uses for this type of bit that you would need a set....others may know of some applications, however.

Any thoughts on whether or not the pulleys themselves should be updated?
