80k is a lot for a RSA but 5000 miles is probably new/collectible condition. If you look also at tt, in the last month, I've seen the following low miles 993tt sold in my area while shopping mine:
75k$ 993tt, 1996, 25k miles, speed yellow/black, sport seats, full optioned (full leather, yellow belts, xenon, stainless, etc)
90k$ 993tt, 1997, 10k miles, black/black, sport seats and many options also.
I have driven both. The RS America is really something special and is in my opinion one of the best buys in Porsches. They are more tail happy than the 993's and require more skill to drive fast, which can be fun.
Drive them both and then make your decision. You will hopefully know which one feels right for you.
More tail happy? More skill to drive fast? How? Let's see, I raced one for three years; and had my second one in nearly stock form for three years alongside the faux 993RS. I couldn't hardly tell a difference when both cars are on equal tires, outside of responsiveness the more modified car has. As far as anything that is ***-engined and air cooled, any competently set up 964 or 993 is about as easy as it gets to hustle around.
IMHO, an RS America is one of the silliest purchases out there. You're paying an additional ~$15K for a manual steering rack that you can buy and install in a 964 C2 for $1K and have the same car.
PS - $80K for a 964! i.e., $50K for a manual rack....thought I'd heard it all....
Yup, that is some crazy ****. $30K will get you a killer 964 (ie. same car).

The stripped-down versions are more valuable, especially the ones without a sunroof. If you are going to drive the car don't buy a 5K mile example unless you like burning money.
Yup. I am always amazed at the US buyers that bought their RS America's 'fully loaded' with all 4 options. LSD may add some value, nothing else makes sense on these cars.

if you buy a 5k mile car at top dollar, you really can't drive it too much to protect that "investment" status. depends on your plans. at 80k, I would also look at 993TT, or a newer car, 997TT or R8 as stated
I would buy a car as an "investment" that isn't driven around ONLY when I had enough money to have all the other cars that I would have ever wanted.
As basically everyone here has said, $80K is way too steep. If you want the driving experience, just buy a normal 964 and prep it for the track so you have that raw experience. If you want an investment, buy a 993 tt. I've seen them for $60k-$70k last year but haven't checked since. They were over 40-50 thousand miles, though.
Yeah, there was a 993 TT in this forum. If you recall it was a gold one with a nice 80s two tone interior that I liked alot and it's very close to where I buy my cars. Keep in mind even though it's a long time from now, I'll be buying a 991 turbo.
