Default drove a 997.1 turbo but still falling hard for the 993

Had my first chance to drive a 997.1 turbo today. Power was just incredible. That car is quite refined and I could be very happy with it.

BUT I still love the old 993 that much better. The connection with the road and feedback on exactly what the car is doing at all times appeals to me in a way that is hard to put into words. The turbo felt disconnected in comparison--sport mode helped but didn't close the gap IMHO. Not to mention the siren song of the 993 engine at WOT.

I guess I have fallen hard for the 993 and there is just no getting over it.

Just had to share with others that likely understand. You may now return to your regularly scheduled programming.

I bought mine over a number of modern cars for the reasons you cite above. Visceral driving experience, connection to the road, lack of electronics which mute the driving experience. I don't regret the decision for a second. For context, I drive about once a week, anywhere from 40 to 200 miles at a time.

I used to own a 997.1 TT with Werks 1 tunign and it had 600+ horsepower! It was an amazing car! I still prefer my 993 over that car but the TT is long down the road! Now I own a 993 C2S, and a 997.2 GT3! Love them both!

Besides the obvious power difference, in terms of driver's communication, feedback etc, how would you compare the 993 vs GT3?

Never driven a GT3 but people only say positive comments about it!

totally agree, it's not all about HP... but 600HP must have been intoxicating.
funny, I have a GT3 and find myself wanting a 993 to go with it

They are such a great 911

The GT3 is better of course because it is a new car, but the 993 is a very fun car to drive! The GT3 is not a DD in my opinion, but to the people that use it as one, hats off to you! (I don't have the "cahones" to leave mine out in the driveway leet alone the parking lot at the work!) The 993 is a good DD but I don't use that as one either. The GT3 has better feedback and road feel than the 993 but the 993 is excellent for the time period! I just love my 993! The GT3 just puts a huge smile on your face every time you get in! The 993 is fun to drive and in my opinion is better handling than the Caymans! I drove a Cayman R many times when I wanted to buy one but went for a 993 because you don't get that old air cooled feel anymore and that exhilaration you get out of the 993! I would never get rid of those cars even if it meant I had to sell my house! LOVE MY GT3 AND 993!

+1!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 600+ HP is just ridiculous! If it weren't for the 4WD the Turbos have that car would be all wheel spin and no go! That car was FAST!!!!!! x 1,000,000

They are great car to have together! Only problem is I never drive them! The 993 has 9 more miles on it since I bought it! GT3 has 4 more!

This would be an wonderful combination of cars to own and a pity to see them sit around cooling their heels.

Such cars are meant to be driven--hard and often like a fine woman.

I put Gitta (my 993) through her paces today on some 130 miles of twisty mountain roads and open highway. She gets to take a bath tomorrow and a spa (nice fresh oil and brake fluid) later this week.
