An accessory port is great for phone charging but for all that trouble I would also hard wire a dedicated line to a radar detector or GPS unit for a cleaner look. Run the wires down the a pillar and behind the dash. Every device has a hard wire kit available on amazon. I even hard wired a micro USB cord to my phone cradle. All you have exposed is the short stub that plugs into your device. I don't have a GPS unit, I use the GPS on my phone, which I think works better than the dedicated units these days, so I just have my radar and phone hard wired. IPod charges off its own USB cord also run from radio behind dash to ashtray. No cords hanging or drooping in car. The battery tender should also have its own connection hard wired to the battery.
