Atlanta area 911 (993) Shop recomendation / Ace Technician
Can anyone recommend an Atlanta area 993 shop? The coupe is getting along in both years and miles so I'd like to treat the car to the best of the best through service. By that I mean R&R the motor and go through every little thang....
There's a nearby Porsche dealer off of GA400 exit 8 however many of the current Tech's had paper routes when the 993 was in production..... I'm just saying.

certainly others with more specific advice will chime in...that being said, if a P tech by the name of Gene Downey is still at Jim Ellis Porsche-I feel he could be more than trusted.
Gene used to be a tech at the Syracuse, NY dealer years ago. One of the sharpest, and funniest folks I ever meet.
Best of luck, and if anyone knows Gene..please tell him Joe Mag -Red 90 Audi Coupe Quattro, said hello. I miss him.

There are 2 genes at Jim Ellis - one is the one mentioned in this thread, the other is a friend of mine (great guy, but we're in our early 20's, so you want the former).

Motor Werks Racing ... a not so good an experience
http://www.motorwerksracing.com/ has a good reputation
Thanks for chiming in with a recommendation, its appreciated.
For What Its Worth.... Motor Werks Racing in Cumming, GA is right around the corner so I used them for a 60K mi. service 3 years ago. I would never bring my road car there, maybe a 944 race car conversion etc. but not likely given my past experience.
On the 993 the work was sloppy and expensive. The sloppy work was a real turn off; from a lose valve cover,, to 3 qts down on a "cow path" oil change service and lastly the ignition wire set replacement was just plain sloppy. M.W.R. had a bad day, I'll give'em that.

Bob Sanderson and Steve Cosgrove over at Goldcrest Motorsports are as fine a Porsche mechanic as they come. Bob has built 993s for me, maintained Supercup and GT3 cars and is a multi-championship winning crew chief. He is the best in town. I have no affiliation other than well over 10 years of good experiences.
