Love wagons, I've got two kids and all the stuff that comes with them and we use my VW wagon all the time. I would think the A4 would have as much room as the Q5, or wait for the new allroad which looks pretty cool.

Thanks, guys, good thoughts and info.
I haven't had a "new" new car in a looooong time, so I'm leaning that way for a change. But I'll see what's around. The 240 has some life left in her yet ...

Bought a '09 A4 Avant new when the slightly larger body style was introduced. Now has 48K on the clock. I replaced the original tires last fall but, other than oil changes, nothing else has needed attention. Plenty of acceleration and 32-33 mpg highway.
The A4 is not as big, lumbering or slow as our '99 A6 Avant, which we owned 10 years prior to the A4.

I like wagons too and love Audis. But when I was shopping for a wagon a few years ago my visit to the Audi dealer lasted about 3 minutes. The conversation went something like this:
Me: "Where are your manual transmission wagons?"
Dealer: "Audi doesn't make them anymore for the US market"
Me: "Goodbye. Call me when you start selling a real wagon again."
I ended up buying a 2007 BMW 325xi, manual of course. I realize that some love their slush boxes but I just can't go there. Maybe when I am too old and feeble to row the gears I might consider an automatic transmission. To each his own.

A little smaller than a Q5, cheaper and faster too...check out the Mini Countryman S All4. Nice turbo motor, all wheel drive, and a blast to drive. Lots and lots of features, and low 30mpg to boot. And yes, it comes with an available 6 speed manual.
We've had our's for 6 months now, I just wish my wife would let me mod it..but afterall, it is her car.
