Default heat tube seal question

The large aluminum heat/air mixing tube located above the catalytic converter has a wide mount that faces directly up and connects to the rear heat box. Is there a seal or gasket between the aluminum piece and the heat box? I cant find a diagram in the service manuals or the parts book. There was no seal in it when I took it apart, but I have decided that the last person to take it apart needed to have his/her tools taken away.
