Pagid Oranges squealing like crazy! any remedy?
I put on Pagid oranges and they are so loud I can barely hear myself think let alone talk to a passenger while stopping. Are there any dampeners or anti squeal stuff that will work with these pads? TIA

Hi Kent,
Oranges are race pads and like ALL race pads, do not contain any anti-squeal compounds due to their relatively low melting point.
The only way to reduce the noise is by using the factory anti-squeal vibration dampers in all 4 calipers and chamfer the leading edges of the pads. These measures will not eliminate the noise, however it will be reduced and perhaps you can live with it.
IMHO, the best and most effective solution is to use street pads for the road and your race pads for DE and track use.

There's no such thing as a quiet Race Pad, and Oranges are about as loud as I've ever tried (and quickly got rid of). Street pad for Street, Race pad for Track. 45 minutes to swap before / after a track event.

I was wrong. I meant Pagid yellow. I didn't put the race pads on the 993. Sorry for the confusion. That being said I did taper the edges, but didn't think dampeners would fit...would the dampening pads that pelican sells work with the pagids?

Pagid Yellow is even more so a Race Pad than Orange. That's what I used on my GT3 and other Track 997s. Street pad for Street, Race pad for Track.
Believe me, I tried them all. Blues, blacks, yellows, oranges, apples, etc. Even the "light" version track pads are terrible on the street and why would you run race pads on the street anyway? As it is your sunglasses fly off your face when you hammer the 993 with good tires and street pads.

The Pagid Oranges are a very old technology, they haven't changed the compound in the last 15 to 20 years. The newer pads (Black/Yellow) while still noisy are much quieter.
All of the options above (dampners and chamfer the edges) this is a bandaid and will reduce for a while but the noise will be back.....

I don't track the 993. I do track the cayman which have Pagid oranges or yellows. I need to find my receipts because now I'm unsure what I put on both cars. Either way, I will probably pull the pagids off the 993 and sell them. They are basically new. Now I need to find a suitable street pad with low dust.

I wanted lower dust and I like the pedal feels with a more aggressive pad. Such as those on my cayman and my dads gt3. I also race and am used to late braking

Hi Kent,
Fact is, street pads & race pads are mutually exclusive since their operating temperature ranges do not overlap very much; hence all the recommendations,...
ANY race pad will be far too noisy on the street for the majority of people and thats the second reason for all the suggestions.
I'd recommend either factory Textars or perhaps Mintex street pads as the best very low dust choices for road use. I've had really good luck with both choices, with the Mintex being the cleanest, however taking longer to bed in.
Call me if I can help.

I tried Akebono low dust pads on a BMW 325 and the wheels stayed amazingly clean, very little dust. The downside was the initial bite wasn't there but they still stopped the car. Don't know if the stopping distance in a panic would be worse or not.
