Trying to nail price guides in this reality is difficult at best, so I've decided the magazine will go in a different direction and wrote a Commentary announcing this last week. We'll keep our Reader Sales Reports in place, as I see them as one of the only true windows into actual transaction prices. We'll move the model histories to the website for those who want to learn more about the cars, and we'll put greater emphasis on Smart Buy, which is a better snapshot of the market for a single interesting Porsche model, and far more current. In the meantime, we'll introduce new ways to cover the marketplace for used Porsches.
I / we appreciate your willingness to listen / change / improve.
I'll continue to read your mag.
I really enjoyed reading Randy's cross-country trip report in the last issue.

- What ever happened to that "hillbilly" with the 996 GT3 that you had writing occasionally? I really liked his style.
- KEEP Chris Harris. His piece is the first i read when Excellence is delivered.

I love the magazine!
Cars in the Anderson price range are out there. But the real price variation is too large for the sample size. I think if you were to put 95% confidence bounds on any 'mean' it would show you are likely to pay $20k-$50k for a 993. The other 5% probably go from $15k-$90k. Good decision to go another direction with the mag.

I've come to view market values as I've long viewed dyno testing and tire testing and exhaust testing...really nice in theory and a worthy objective, but doing it right is outside our scope — unless I find some synergy that has thus far eluded me.

Sports Car Market shows actual auction results for collector cars and they have a "Pocket Guide" that gives some idea of general prices for various models. The numbers are for cars at auctions so they are less than you would expect to see in a private sale or from a dealer. There is also a lot of variance depending on condition and rarity. It is the most reliable information I have seen, though.

IMHO you guys underestimate our intelligence to say that we derive all our knowledge of 993 values from Rennlist. Folks here are smarter than that. When we want to buy or sell a 993, we look in the same places as the rest of the country - autotrader, cars.com, and ebay (plus rennlist and pelican, of course).

Pete, as a subscriber for years, thanks for all you do, and thanks for answering the questions posed by the group. I agree with the group that the values aren't accurate (if you're trying to buy a car, you can only hope the seller believes the data) and I'm pleased to hear you're addressing it.
Keep up the good work, and I look forward to the changes. to be honest, I too was disappointed to note that the text didn't seem to vary from year to year in the value updates either.

LOL!! You can always set your calendar to Feb/Mar to see the annual WTF is Bruce thinking threads. It's just hilarious looking at the actual magazine and watching the degredation of the once beautiful 993 color drawings get cut and pasted, used year after year for the pricing guide and watching more and more of the drawing's tires get cut away during paste-up. True journalist check their facts before they publish articles, this publication obviously doesn't so it gets what they deserve.

Bruce passed away a while back. Let's let him rest in peace without having his name associated with an unsavory practice.
For those of you that knew Bruce, met Bruce and know the the contributions in time and energy that he devoted to Porsche causes....this guy was a class act.
