I'm glad you agree with me that cotton is harsher than microfiber. Armed with that knowledge, I'll stick with microfiber on my car. Good luck with your harsher cotton.

Wow! You guys made me feel much better....not so much as to the best way to dry my car but making me realize I'm not nearly as far gone as my wife claims. Thanks for the great input & therapy!

using a leaf blower?
i'd pretty much rather scratch my car's paint rather than use one of those noisy POS.
your neighbors must love you!

I tried to use my Shop Vac to blow off the initial residual water and it was spraying all kinds of grit which it had previously vacuumed up and was on the wrong side of the filter.

This would be the way to go for a blower. See http://www.wolfgangcarcare.com/metro...aster-8hp.html

what about compressed air?

Yes... you will probably need a larger holding tank. The only issue is very small area being blown around, but luckily we have very small cars

I'm actually surprised there are any owners who still use cotton towels. When I switched (years ago) to microfibre towels I immediately noticed a huge improvement in appearance vs. 100% cotton towels.

Without trying to get too much into detailing techniques (there are plenty of sites to cover that) one thing that I didn't see mentioned is to use a 2 or 3 bucket method for washing. I think that's as important, if not more, than drying with microfibre towels.

Cheers.

Pretty touchy screen this IPad has! Anyway, I am going to give it a try. I liked those grit guards but I'm not so sure the mitt beats the brush I now use. Next I'm gonna try out those new fangled telephones with the buttons on them.......Chris

"one thing that I didn't see mentioned is to use a 2 or 3 bucket method for washing."

david993s....see link i posted...:-)

solomonschris...your car looks great after the vegas debacle...enjoy. have found spritzing a fine mist of detail spray (for lubrication) after lightly drying and lightly buffing w mf towel goes a long way.

never used any of this stuff on 97 turbo as had no idea...and silver is super easy to take care of...but now with a black car...it's impt imo.
