He stated with the wrap, its a heat gun and removal in minutes with zero paint impact or removal.
He stated with the film, its much harder to remove, and worries about paint removal, especially with our soft paint. (his words)

reading a thread over in the 997 GT3 forum, someone is considering doing the DIY and people are saying don't even think about it.
hard for us, but easy if you do it for a living is the word

I've thought about getting some to play around with. I'm sure there's an art to it, but it obviously isn't impossible to learn. Keep in mind some people wouldn't advise changing your own oil either.

So, I went to a Car Wrap/Film place today at my lunch. I told him I have a couple goals. Car wrap threads seem to pop up every once in awhile and everyone wants to know the pros/cons and costs, so I figured I would share.
1. Drive my car more often. Colorado has lots of pebbles in Spring and Fall, and I want to protect my car from the small chips.
2. Protect my car from door dings.
3. Maybe change the color, just for the fun of it.
There are three options and costs:
1. A full car clear 8 mil film. Cost: $2500
Wrap the entire car to help against rock chips, and maybe a door ding depending on how hard the door hits it.
Pros on the clear film is the better protection, its thicker.
Con, its a motherfrogger to remove. He said it may take him 3 hours just to remove the film from a door.
He said its not meant to be removed except 10 years down the line when it starts to yellow.
2. A front hood and bumpers only, clear film 8 mil. Cost: $700
Just those front areas up to the top of the hood.
Pros on just the front protection is exactly that. Most people only go to this level and widely accepted.
Con, fairly expensive for such a small area.
3. A colored 3.2 mil wrap. Cost: $1350
A. Change the color of your car
B. Keep the color of your car, but protect against small rock chips
Pros are the fact you will get some rock chip protection, but not like a clear film 8 mil thick product in #1.
You can change the color of any car, and its virtually unknown to someone looking at the car. It now comes in Matte and Gloss.
New product comes off in 5 minutes and will not harm paint like in a clear film.
Con is less protection.
