M030 versus H&R springs
Dumping the monroes and SUV height on the incoming C2S. Had H&R and Bilstein HD's on my 96' 4S and was fine with height, ride, etc.
Seems like more buzz these days on M030 springs.
Going back with Bilstein HD's and am curious if the H&R's provide a lower ride height than the M030 springs.
Also probably going with 22mm front sway bar & 20mm rear sway bar.
There was an option with these bigger sways. In the remote chance mine has that does anyone know what that option # is?
Thanks in advance.

The H&R are on my brother-in-law's 993 with Bilstein HD but the shocks are threaded so height is adjustable. It's definitely lower than my 993 with new monroes and M033.
I have ROW turbo sway bars which are 22mm front and 21 rear. While his is on the stock 20/17 sways.
My setup also runs 245/35/18 and 285/30/18 tires and his is the stock 225/40/18 265/35/18.
I definitely have more stability in the switchbacks.

The range of height is overall lower on the H&R's vs ROW M030. My height is set at roughly ROW Sport -12mm with the H&R's and HD's, but I could raise the car another 4mm or so with the remaining adjustment on the HD's. If you're looking to get closer to the middle of the ROW Sport range or higher, go with the ROW M030 springs. Not sure how low you can go with HD/ROW M030 combination, but it might not be any lower than the bottom of the ROW Sport range, if that.

I switched out a friends H&R's for M033's that was stupid low as well.
Note, that was in combination with OE Monroes with out adjustment.
If it was my car and I wanted the results that I think you do, I would go M030.

I have H&R springs and Bilstein HD's. It took three attempts to get the ride height/ride quality worked out, but I did and it's a great setup once it's setup right. You can make the car look slammed (stupid low) with his setup or more ROW. Mines a few mm's less than ROW, but it transforms the handling and really looks great. Ride quality is only mildly diminished.

Hmmm. Appreciate all the feedback. So if the Bilstein HD's are adjustable (height wise) why wouldn't I get the H&R's and if I don't like stupid low I could raise it a bit to ROW height.

Mark, Mark, Mark....glad to see things have finally come full circle!
I think your decision will depend on how compliant you want the ride. I find the HD/H&R option to be pretty stiff without the adjustability on the cars I've driven. I feel the HD shock is a bit overdampened for that spring but I don't have any real data to back that up. The MO30 spring is softer but not as low as an H&R. So, if you want a lower but softest ride then MO30 spring is your choice. If ride height is important more than ride quality then don't do the M030. I have the PSS10s as you know and really like the ability to adjust them comfort or sport. Another thing to consider is your choice of ARBs...the 22/20 setup makes the car noticeably stiffer in everyday driving...even cruising down the road in a straight line the bigger bars make it a harsher ride over even small bumps.
I think for you the best setup to start with would be PSS10 with stock ARBs. Set them at 5 all around and see how you like the car. If the car is not flat enough for you in the corners and you can live with a bit more harsh ride then you can always buy the 22/20 ARBs and put them on without needing to redo an alignment.
Glad you are coming back to the fold!

Mark,
Here's my take on H&R vs MO30 from a post in '07 .... data may be getting long in the tooth - but the car still rides to a standard I expect of a sports machine.

Thanks everyone. Adam my man how are you? I think you had one of the first set of PSS10's in North America. Good thing you dropped the coin on those PSS10's before Lana gives birth. Glad to hear it's a boy and you will be naming him Karl.
The C2S I picked up is a 2 owner unmolested car with 29K miles so I'm not going to fall off the slope like the C4S. If I feel the need to thrash a car it will be my 997 "disposible bic" Porsche.
Definetly going back to M030 sways and probably M030 springs and Bilstien HD's. I was fine with the HD/H&R set up I had before. Just don't want stupid low look with a original car.
Garth S-great post and I read the whole thead. Thank you.

Agree with Adam, just spend the $$ on a set of PSS9 (used) or PSS10 (new). Then you can adjust dampening and height to whatever you want. I love the PSS9's that I have

Hi Mark...I just installed my Targa w/ Bilstein HDs and H&R sport springs...the car handles beautifully but the stance was much lower than I thought...I don't do any tracking but you end up getting extra cautious about possible scraping on weekend drives...so I have decided to replace with ROW M030s

My car had H&R sport springs and Bilstein HDs when I bought it in April 2011.
It was lowered to about RS height in front and as low as it could be in the rear.
The car came with the Sport Chassis option so had the M030 sway bars.
It handled extremely well in canyons but was not good on city streets or the highway or in the rain. Way too darty.
I recently changed out the springs for ROW M030 sport springs and kept the Bilstein HDs and had the ride height set to ROW Sport. Had the work done at
Johnson Alignment by Steve Alarcon in Torrance. I was not looking for a track car setup. I use the car daily and for touring. So alignment settings reflect that.
Now the car is way more fun to drive everywhere. Much more compliant on city streets and the freeway. The front lower control arm bushings were cracked so he changed those out for Elephant Racing regular hardness bushings. He also installed the RS strut brace made by Heigo I had collected. Springs and strut brace were purchased from Sunset Porsche. Great people and prices.
No more scraping on driveway entrance/exits. It really transformed the car.
Like Steve said, this is the way they should have all come.
