Default Tip for installing new hood crest?

I remember reading something about helpful hints for installation of new hood crest using rubber "gasket" but cannot find thread in any searches.

Anyone else remember where that was?

Thanks in advance.

Try gluing the gasket on the badge first (or double side tape), warm the gasket up

No need to do this. Go to the dealer and buy the OEM gasket, sit in the sun for 30 minutes, slap it on

+1

Unless you're using a gasket from Porsche, this becomes an exercise in extreme frustration.

I've found that a great number of new hood crests sold on EBay come with sub-standard plasticky-feeling gaskets. The proper gasket easily cups the hood crest and stays in place while you attach the speed nuts.

I have also had success with fitting the gasket by placing in super hot water for a few minutes to allow it to stretch a bit. It seems that some fit easily while others are a wrestling match.

Interesting discovery: The shape of the OE hood crest for my 993 is different that the newer Porsche products. We are only talking a few mm, but different.

If anything, I've found that the 997-numbered crests are not only relatively flat, they are also no longer enamel over brass. Instead, the image appears printed on the base metal, and then covered with a very thick clear material.

I found this out the hard way after paying for a new one in order to bead blast it and then refinish...
