LED 3rd Brake Light
#46
See post #6 in this thread for the right LED bulb. It comes complete with resistor built in. Just take of the red plastic base and solder it in place - direct swap for the little bulbs.

The bulb itself looks different, are you sure this will work? If so, I will order these tonight.

I just received these from China for my interior light: http://www.ebay.com/itm/2X-41mm-Car-...item2a253550a5
They are warm white to replace the morgue-like bright white LED bulbs I've used before. Very much better in my opinion. The bright white ones will go to the front trunk and engine bay (they give a little more light).

I think it was me! Either way you need 24 (from memory) high brightness red T5 type leds.
I converted my car 9 years ago and they're still going strong (as is the car!)

If you are going to convert the Cyclops light to LED. You will probably wire theLEDs in a series of 3 or 4 to make them 12 volt compatible. Doing this with the existing circuit board and wire jumpers is difficult. Also, LEDs do not have the same look as the bulbs. I would just buy a full set of bulbs from a bulb seller on the internet, not a Porsche Parts site as the bulbs are very cheap this way. The replaced bulbs will last many years so I do not see the burning need for a LED conversion.

I have to replace a 7506 bulb in a rear turn signal indicator. There are a whole bunch of both white and red LEDs with 7506 bases (and, I assume built-in resistors?) on eBay. Anyone try those? I'm interested in a very regular OEM look, just potentially longer lasting bulb

Thanks deekay911. The red T5's look like a perfect solution. Thanks for reposting.

I did mine earlier this year following info found here. It was pretty straightforward and I am happy with the result. Of course I almost never see my own brake lights ;-).
My write-up and photos are online here: http://twofourthsfull.blogspot.com/2...ake-light.html.

There's so much great information on this board! Although my 3rd Brake lights are all still on it will be first on the todo list once one bulb blows. I've taken apart the 3rd Brake light recently and everything's cleaned up, but noticed some black dust settling in the lower corners of the light bar. I guess once I remove the PCB I can wash the insides, am concerned about getting that foam like gasket wet and having it fall apart on me on assembly.
