Angry Rear toe control arm, seriously?

Do I really have to drop the crossmember in order to change the control arm? Touching heat exchangers is something I'd rather not do..

Terve Jakko,

Just take them out, it's not a big deal.
I assume you mean the headers part, and not the heat tubes that go from the headers (which wod be even easier).

I'm actually doing the same (will put all monoball links) in a bit although I assume I'll have easier time since I have custom headers.

You can put a small dimple in the corner of the heat exchanger. My 993 has a dimple from a previous owner. This will allow enough room to maneuver the bolt out.

no need to remove or dent anything.. i just did this to install my PSS10s.. lift the engine a bit (just use a jack and it will move 1 cm) and make sure the bolt is all the way to the side.. will pop right out.

you might need to add a bit of a wiggle (proper german wiggle) to get out. I scratched my head at first as well, but then always think that there was some way engineered into the design. AKA - never force \ dent \ damage anything.. there's usually another way.

Jaakko,

Stop being a whiner and pull off the heat exchangers. Then you can give them a proper cleaning and have the shiniest ones on RL !! Just thinking.....

Nothing wrong with giving the heat exchanger a little ding. I've seen this on more than one 993!

'tis the way! Also, if you back off the two 13mm nuts on the motor mounts, more clearance can be had if absolutely needed: just watch the intake manifold & exhaust tips as a guide against going too far ... and have the engine well supported. No need to remove the bolts .... just loosen.

If your motor mounts are sagging, jacking up on the engine will help you. Also, rotating the bolt for best clearance often times is also a must.

I'm replacing mine as well right now - '95 with 130k miles on it.

My heat exchangers have this signature "dimple", most likely done by my previous mechanic who installed my PSS9's. The current shop doing my alignment pointed this dimple out to me and told me his shop would never do this.

I am going with Porsche factory rear toe control arms bty....

You can have mine. I'll have them as early as this weekend and can ship it to you. PM if you are interested.

BTY, just curious, what are you going to do with them? Mine are shot (the ball socket side with the bolt attached to it).
