Default Removeable Bra For 993

Does anyone know where one can purchase a high quality removeable bra for a 993 coupe that does not require adding the velcro fasteners?

Thanks.

Bill Colgan invented the bra for Porsches back in the 60's. They were so good, the Factory bought 'em. Still probably the best on the planet but don't leave a wet one on the car...especially in the Sun.

I use the factory bra. Same price or actually slightly less than the Colgan with the PCA discount, at least the last time I bought one. Plus it is one piece across the hood versus a seam, and has the crest. I don't use the velcro under the carpet but just tuck the edges in while closing the hood. I did put some black felt though under the areas where there is velcro that might touch the paint. Been pleased with it.

Slight hijack - I've been considering a bra for my drive to the Porsche parade. I've read so many horror stories, can anyone who has used one for some time on their 993 comment?

I have a Colgan bra. the first owner purchased it, and it got passed to the 2nd owner, and then to me with the car. I modified it to accommodate the RS splitters.

(I have MAD Sewing SKILLZ!)

it has the velcro tabs, but they don't really need to be used as there is a piece that runs along the side of the bra that tucks under hood and holds the bra down by the hood.
I think the velcro just holds the bra in place while the hood is open.

there are hooks covered with felt to hold the bra around the fenders.

I do not use the bra very often, just on long road trips. for around town, I do not use it.

I agree. I do not want to spend money on a clear bra, so what other temporary solution is out there? If a bra will stop rock chips and not harm the paint, I'll use one.
Kika, how long have you used yours and have you noticed any damage?

My bra was passed on from the PO, so I have had it since I have owned the car, so since 2007.

there were 2 spots on the hood with a number of swirl/scratch marks in the paint. the spots were about half way up the hood on both sides. I suspect they were caused by the bra. I don't know if some debris got caught under it and the bra rubbed the swirls in or what. I used to think it was the velcro tabs, but they are too far away from the spots. I polished the marks out, so they can no longer be seen.

It could have been caused by something else altogether too, I really have no idea.

I only put the bra on a completely clean car, and only for long drives where I expect to encounter trucks and other debris, so when I take it up Hwy 5 I will put it on. and NEVER in the rain.

my car is far from a concours vehicle and it has it's fair share of scratches. my goal with the bra is to prevent larger chips in that vulnerable area up front (of the car that is!)

but, no, I have not noticed any noticeable damage due to the bra itself.

I know for track events, a number of people will simply use the blue painters masking tape, and for the amount I use my bra, that would also suffice, although as a fashion statement it is easier to get away with it at the track than on the highway.

Installed when I bought the car. I was doing trips from Riverside to Eureka every 2 weeks for about a year.
Drove it in all conditions (unfortunatly rain).
Had some swirlmarks on top of the fenders. So I removed the bra and never installed it since.

Does anyone have one to sell, I need one for a cross country trip from LA to Halifax, Nova Scotia. If they don't want to sell it will they rent it or whatever. I ordered one through Pelican and they said I couldn't get it until Sept. 28, that's 2 Months. Barring this does anyone know a Dealer who might have one?

I have 30 Days to get one in LA where the car is.

Thanks,
Lloyd

Lloyd,

I can deliver mine to Chuck's house when you arrive.

You can rent, borrow or buy, whichever you desire.

Mine has been modified to accommodate RS splitters, so it is a few inches shorter on either end, but it's should still fit. I can test fit on Chuck's car ahead of time. See pic 2 above.

Just let me know what your preference is.

I'm on my second or third bra. I don't use it anymore though. I make 3 road trips a month. The occasonal chip doesn't bother me anymore. When it rains on my outbound leg, I have to hang it up somewhere to dry. A lot of times in the rain, grit gets under it and it needs to be washed.

It also probably doesn't hurt to have a good coat of wax on under the bra.

I'm debating using mine to go to Monterey. I used felt strips under the bra on my 911 at the track-never had swirls, but only put it on a clean car, and never in rain.

FWIW,there's a brand new, unused Colgan for sale on Pelican right now. Asking $85.00.
