Coupes are more desirable compared to a cabriolet. A manual is more sought after compared to a Tiptronic. A wide body "S" car is more admired than a narrow body car and the two-wheel drive S is harder to find and usually more expensive than a C4S. The turbo's are in another category.
Nothing wrong with a cab or automatic, but this info is good to know when you go shipping.

Keep in mind that 97' was the last year the classic NB coupe was sold. As much as I like the look of the 98' "S" wide bodied cars they are heavier and have a higher drag co. If you want the purest driving last of the air cooled cars the two wheel drive 97' coupe is the way to go. Manual transmission only.

First: qualify what you mean by Best.

do you want a Cab or a Coupe? that will limit some styles, i.e. Narrow body or Wide Body.
How much HP/torque do you want? (Turbo or NA)
AWD or RWD only?

do you plan to track the car? or will it be strictly a street car?

I see you live in LA and guessing you are a USC student or about to graduate, do you need to smog the car in CA or are you a resident of another state? (BTW I graduated from USC in 86 and my son is a sophomore now) (Halcyon is an architecture student at SC)

95's are OBD I, where as 96-98 are OBD II.

96+ has varioram, 95 did not.

in any event, you are in the right place to ask questions, but be more specific or your responses will be all over the place.

and since I am not paid for owning my 993, I do not qualify as "professional".

Fight On !

If I remember right Mark, I did chat with you when you were selling your red one.
I ended up picking up a 95' coupe. I can't really say what year is best mechanically since I'm still learning on that, but I can at least say that I love my basket handle that's only on the 95.
There's another 95' black/cashmere cab that seems to show up on campus quite frequently too !

96-98 C4S . With the 4S you get everything the Turbo came with. Minus the Turbo. Larger Brakes, Red Calipers, Larger Tires, Wide awesome look. Lower suspension I believe?

Also, Black and Cashmere! lol-

I'll vote for '95 as well, as you are located in LA, home of many smog *****.

None of the 993 series cars came with 295's. Not even the Turbo's. biggest factory size was 285/30/18.
