Default Oil top-up issue

So...I went to top up the oil, and was confused when after just a few ounces, the oil was backing up in the filler tube I took a look in the filler neck with a bright light and found what appears to be a concertina'd tube. A little searching found this to be a handy dandy little device Porsche added to help you fill up without making a mess. So I pull it out and find it has almost completely fallen apart - the rubber around the spiral spring was in small pieces.
Soooo...it looks like I will be spending some time pulling the filler tube and oil tank out to fish out the debris. Anyone intimately familiar enough with the tank and fill-up to advise where this stuff might go or be held up?

Here's some advice to everyone - take a look in your oil filler and if you still have this thing in place, yank it out and throw it into the trash.

Luckily I removed mine before it had a chance to fall apart.

The day after I bought my 993, I topped up the oil a tad. The filling tube was OK then. About a month later prior to winter lay-away, I changed the oil and filters. Sure enough that filling tube split on me. I bought a new filling tube and less than a year later it split also. Sunset sent me a replacement and its just sitting in a plastic bag, never to be used.

Its a handy feature, but Porsche needs to do some material compatibility testing.

After my first oil change back in '05, I wondered why it appeared as if I had spilled oil next to the filler neck. I was using the flexible pipe to guide the oil in. Upon closer inspection, I found a few cracks in the flexible pipe. Its next stop was in the trash.

I simply use an appropriate funnel when filling or adding oil.

So is there any mystery to removing this useless piece of s#*%? I have a long funnel that I use and this thing just gets in the way. Do you just grab it with channel locks and pull it out or is there a more elegant way?

Hand power is all that is needed. Pull it all the way out till it comes to a stop, then slowly work it around while pulling gently.

Compact disposable funnels while on the road...drinking fountain paper cones with a half-inch cut off the bottom. I keep a few in a zip-lock bag in the motorcycle and 993.

I once had a German girlfriend from Lübeck. I know how the German mind works.

And I never complained.

change the oil cap as well, your oil cap seal is leaking vapor.
