So I was lucky to find real Ruf seats for my 993. The car has hard back sport seats now and my wife has a 87 911 and would like opinions on painted hard back sport seats in a 87 911.
Clearly not period style seats but what are your thoughts

I wouldn't do it , the sport seats for the 80's look very well on the 3.2 , I would sell the 993 sport seats and purchase a set of 3.2 sport seats and have money left for anything both cars need , I have a set of 3.2 sport seats that I'm willing to swap and some cash for your 993 sport seats if that's something that will interest you .

If you're advocating putting the 993 seats in the 87, I vote "no." Better to find some period correct sport seats; they were available from 85-94 in both the 911 as well as the 944. Not super easy to find but not impossible either. 3.2 sport seats tend to sell for about $2,000; the 993's if black and in good shape, about $6,000-6,500.

Or get them vinyl wrapped; looks the same and doesn't affect the originality of the seats.
