Stalling on a steep driveway

I've noticed this twice now. When I park my car at my brothers place - on his steepish driveway - the car will stall when I start her up. I need to keep a little throttle on to keep the car running.
I don't remember having this problem, and on a reasonably flat surface, the car starts fine.
Anyone had this problem before or know what the problem might be?
TIA
Ken

I have my car in the shop now and one thing being addressed is a intermittent long cranking process. My tech thinks that it is a valve in the fuel pump not available separately for a 993 but a 968/944 valve might fix it and save me the expense of a fuel pump. It starts finally and dies.

ISV? It's a weighted rotating shaft, that is aligned to the side to side axis, so it should react differently if you're on an incline. Clean it, see if the problem disappears, then move on to more difficult solutions.

the check valve part number is 964.620.951.00 costs 40 euros here.
bosch pump plus check valve is : 0 580 464 058 costs ~ $150 (rock auto, etc)

Thanks gents - some good ideas.
Merc - let me know what happens when your car comes out of the garage. I have to crank twice most of the time to get my car running. The first one does nothing - at times it might start. But the second crank starts 99% of the time - on the first turn.
Jeff - that's pretty logical thinking about the isv. I haven't cleaned it for a while so I'll do it when I change the oil in the coming weeks. Cheers.

I put my new dme relay in to make sure and the car still acted up. Strange when it has been sitting for a few days it will fire up ASAP. Sometimes. It is embarrassing to crank the car for 30 seconds then have it start and stall.
