I've search and cannot find a spec on this.
Is .070" to much up and down play on the shaft at the small fan wheel for alternator cooling? seems like a lot.

read my gauge wrong. it is actually .007 to .008
this may be ok but still seems like a lot of up and down movement.

I did a quick search and couldn't find it either, though I know I've seen it.

Last time I had my fan off I checked for shaft movement (by hand), there was nothing noticeable. At least nothing that made me want to grab a dial-indicator and measure.

Jeff, thanks for trying to find the spec.
Local indy shop looked at it and said 7 thousandths is ok. 0.007
And a small amount of play in normal.

Probably true. When these bearings show excessive wear, the belt tension will force the fan blades to machine the inside of the housing...
