Default High pitched whine from engine bay

Anyone else have this? Just started last week. Will whine for a minute then go away for a few minutes. Gets higher pitched with more RPM. Happens hot or cold. Best way to describe it would be that it sounds like a really high pitched twin screw supercharger or like the tranny in a cup car. Everytime I get to listen to it it goes away but I think it's coming from the fan area. Any tips would be appreciated

Thanks

With the engine off, tie the belt-sensor roller back so that it no longer touches the belt. Start the engine. Did the noise stop? If so, the bearing within the roller is shot.

Other possibilities include the fan hub bearing, and the bearings within the alternator.

The SAI pump can also make disturbing noises if it is approaching bearing death ..... but only for a min or so after start up.

Old glazed belts or as the previous said, belt sensor.

interesting...mine makes almost a whistle noise, albiet high pitched. Only at start up, and seems only when it is cold/wet outside, but not everytime.

It goes away after a few minute's. I initially thought it was originating somewhere around the blower/airbox, but seems more toward the fan/alternator area now.

Winter time fix maybe.

Thank you!!!

That's exactly what it was. Removed the whole sensor and the noise went away. The bearing is toast- all rusted. I tried putting some grease in it then re installing but it made no difference. Just ordered a new sensor

Those sensors fail quite often considering the age of our cars.

And the fact that the bearings are not sealed.

Had the same issue with mine - just removed it and did not replace - I figure I gained more then 10 hp due lack of friction.

Actually, I think you gain around 20 hp.

Did you terminate/loop the sensor wire to keep the light off?

You are brave. I consider this one of the more essential alarms. Not like the brake pad sensors ...

You are brave. I consider this one of the more essential alarms: Time critical to respond to and potential high consequence. Not like the brake pad sensors ...

Not sure what you mean - if the belt breaks you will know it right away.
