Default Throwing in the towel

After breaking 2 strap wrenches trying to hold the crank pulley still (one was a chain wrench too) I am giving my crank pulley R&R job to the pros. I have called Scientific Auto in Pasadena and was quoted $975 for the following:

Replace timing chain cover gaskets
Replace crank seal
Remove crank pulley and replace with one I purchased from a fellow rennlister.

Is this reasonable given I am supplying the pulley? Any reason to avoid this shop? Also, is there anything else I need to do while there? Car has 80k miles.

Thanks.

Replacing the chain cover gaskets alone requires a lot of labor to do with the engine on the car. Estimate about an 8 hour job. So, it sounds about right.

Use that money and buy yourself a rattle gun to get the thing off. Or just rent one.
That's the tool they will use to get the bolt off.
It's a pretty easy DIY - but time consuming.
I tried a few things and then gave in to the rattle gun - and that did the job.

Thanks for the replies. I thought about renting an impact tool but then I would have to purchase the Porsche special tool to stop the crank from rotating? Putting it in gear and standing on the brakes while holding the pulley didn't go so well (I read some were able to remove the bolt this way). Maybe my clutch is going too...

You just need the impact drill Peqoud and the socket bit to fit. No need to do anything else with brakes or gears.
Read my thread about the tiptronic supercharger project. It details the impact drill model I used - so you can refer to the amount of tq the unit had. I then had to hammer and applied some heat to the bolt. It came off easy. I also tried to get it off without the impact drill - and had the same results you did.
