993 conversion to a 74 Carrera RS
I know it is a crazy idea. But would it be possible to convert a 993 and back date it to a 74 Carrera RS? To make it look like something like this

I backdated my 78 sc to a 73 longhood rsr.
Replace the front clip, and replace the rear clip.
I agree about starting with a 964 unless you can make the 993 rear 1/4 work which could be interesting.

Seems like a lifetime ago that we wanted to purge the world of longhoods by making them into shorthoods. The car above is (almost) exactly what I patterned the "upgrade" of my '68 into.
But I concur about starting with a 964. The "better" rear suspension of a 993 is a non-issue. I never once felt that the 964 was compromised against any 993 I used to run against. And now having the faux RS, I really wouldn't be concerned in the least if Kim did that car on a 964 chassis.

You could do a 74 RS-look but it wouldn't be the same without major body work. If you insist on building on your 993, adding a new hood, front clip, and changing out the tail for a duck or similar RS tail would be all that you would have to do to get close. GT Racing offers a hood conversion so that you can supposedly fit the older-style valance. Good luck.

There was a recent article in Excellence about a guy who backdated a 964 to long-hood specs. From the details in the article, it didn't sound like it was as simple to do as on a <89 911.

Well no one said I would be easy. I also thought to be different.
I have now my 993 invested little much too just let it go a trade for a 964. Since it is a US 95 here in Germany.
In the spec now:
It has G50/21 steel syncros tranny with limited 40/60 slip
manual steering rack
RS/GT2 front upright with GT2 EVO steering joints
complete mono ball front suspension
rear mono ball chamber
Solid Rear Subframe Kit and Tilt Kit
286 HP engine with no vario-ram intake
interior stripped with all glue removed
Momo/Porsche Steering wheel
92 Liter gas tank
Turbo brakes F/R
RS shifter
Recaro SPA Racer and SPG
H&R Race in Nordschleife setup
might have something forgotten
I also considered a 70,s 2.5 ST conversion on my 993

Apparently, the front end of the car is quite different, so would involve a lot of irreversible cutting and welding and associated costs with that.(if u look at a side profile of the two body shells without the front fenders attached you'll the 911/964 shell is much steeper raked downwards than the 993).
Not that you asked, but it sounds to me like you have a very nice 993, so not sure I would go down that road, if I were you.
In fact, i was contemplating doing the same thing about six months ago for a '73 2.8 RSR conversion, but in the end opted to keep my 993 as is and buy a 964.
Sure, it costs more because u have to buy a used 964, but you save on the conversion (as 964 is easier / cheaper to covert) and more importantly you end up with two cars instead of one butchered 993. Worth thinking about if one day you tire of the '74 RS look.

It can be done! I back dated a 993 to look like a 965.
