engine oil change frequency
Have some questions about engine oil change frequency:
1. When we drive the 993 often, how often should we change engine oil?
2. When we drive the 993 rarely, how often should we change engine oil?
3. For example, previous oil change was 3 years ago and during this 3 year period, the 993 has been driven for only 3,000 miles. Should we still do the oil change because the engine oil is getting old due to time?
Thanks

Try a search and you'll find many threads on this question. I go by Porsche's maintenance schedule, which I've posted previously. Every 15,000 miles, but if a car is used sporadically it suggests annual servicing including oil.

I change oil and filters every 5,000 miles. I put about 13,000 miles on my car per year so thats roughly 2.5 changes per year. I consider the extra expense of the oil as preventative maintenance
I have heard that synthetic oils have a pretty long shelf life (so they should be fine in the engine as well). I would think the most important thing with a "garage queen" is regular running of the engine, bringing it to temperature to get any water that may have condensed in the block to evaporate out.
