Guys, after years of not being able to decide if I could bring myself to change out the original hifi system, finally did it.
Went with an Alpine CDA117 head unit, Hertz Energy speakers (doors and rear deck), JL sub, and JL amp. Also included XM and BT.
The system is outstanding!
Kudos to Chris Franks and his team at Custom Car Stereo!!! www.customcarstereo.com

Yes sir, custom made by the guys at Custom Car Stereo. I'm amazed that the material they used to cover the enclosure appears to be an exact match to the material on the rear chairs.
Amp went under the front passenger chair.
There is also a cable in the glove box to connect to my new iphone (sure miss my BB). Now if I can just figure out how to get all my cd's onto the phone...

John/Ed, thanks.
Not exactly sure how they mounted inside the existing door panels, but they removed the old speakers and the baffle. If I had to guess, might have removed almost 50lbs. in unsprung weight![Smilie](https://rennlist.com/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)
They installed all equipment to be able to bring the car completely back to original.

Just picked up a Saturn Ion for a DD and put a Sony XAV64BT DVD receiver in it. It has a native Pandora app on it that syncs with the BT on your phone which I really like, plus the USB, front AUX and normal BT sync. The sound quality is very good imo

Pictured is a Pioneer TS-WX77a active subwoofer, it's sold in Europe, Japan and the ROW, just not in the USA. I'd order the unit through the eBay.de store of caraudio24.de, the seller then handled the DHL shipment to the states. $229.00 in Euro's all toll. The slooow DHL ship took approx. 7 weeks.
Anyway,,,, here's the sub. It fits "tailor made" when the rear seats are in the down position; pictured. The sub’s operation is intended to be adjunct to the 993’s HiFi speaker option w/ the CDR-210 . (my HiFi option front doors have been fitted with VW OEM Dynaudio drivers, the transmission line bass reflex enclosure tunes quite well. The excellent Dynaudio 3" soft dome midrange is plug n play dam near.)
The signal input can either be a high (speaker) or low (pre-out) level,,, and in this experiment I'll use the rear speaker signal as the input. The subwoofer being the active type will not be relying on the stock CDR-210 for amplification. Additionally there’s a tethered control pod for gain, frequency crossover and 0-180 phase control. With the right wiring termination the (12lb) flat sub enclosure will be (easily) removable from the car – it stows in the front trunk believe it or not. The exterior is made of a tough polyester cover which is scuff proof - pretty sturdy.
Try to Google TS WX77a as there are a few YouTube video's installations of the sub. It might work just A-OK in our coupe's.
I'll hook up the sub in a week or two and report.
