does cdr 210 work without an external amp?
Thinking of getting a CDR 210 that came out of a car with the hi-fi option -- i.e., has an external amp. Will that work without the amp?

I used to have a CDR 210, yes it has an internal amp, albeit low power. I think rated at 20W, but I don't know at what %Total Harmonic Distortion.

It works fine w/o an amp. When I purchased the '98 C2S, I removed a crappy Pioneer head and an amp from the trunk, then installed a CDR210. It works fine, altho I rarely use it, much preferrng the "tunes" coming form the FISTER Stage III's!

Yes the CDR210 radio has internal amplification; IIRC the radio’s output is rated as 10w RMS per channel. A pre-out is also available through the C-block – yellow color. The NJ Becker boys offer a modified C-block connector with a short 10” pigtail terminating in (front/rear ch.) RCAs. Just the ticket for introducing a modern external amplifier in place of the OEM Nokia branded amp. The OEM external amp was long in the tooth back in the 993s production days. Today the amp is a museum piece.
As an example there's the Mosconi amp model, One 120.4 DSP, its a modern 4ch, class A/B, with hefty DSP. It fits under the 993s passenger seat.
