Cab top not going all the way down?
Today I converted the top to manual. (The motors seemed to be working fine, but it just made sense).
I then put the top down it seems to not fully rest or be all the way down.
I have nothing to compare it to, and it was the same in automatic mode.
My question by looking at these pics, does this look normal? Too high?
I then put my boot on, and I felt like it need about another inch to go down for all the snaps to evenly distributed.
(ie. right side snaps, but when snapping left I am struggling and even right pops off).
Many thanks!

IMO I would take off the boot ASAP and get that top figured out. My cab went all the way down the top in your pic is definitely not down all the way, I can tell just by looking at the rear window. The front of the top where it latches to windshield should lay flat against the base of the rear plastic window. Maybe you didnt unloosen the bolts enough?? I would put the top up again, then lower it slowly and make sure its not caught on anything. Another FYI, place a microfiber towel in between the rear window and the top when you lower it, but make sure the window is clean to prevent scratches. The microfiber towel will act as a buffer between the top and the plastic and eliminate any contact and rubbing against the plastic.

I just looked at your pics again. I am not 100% certain but I would double check how your top is folding in a couple of your pics where the top looks lighter from the sun, it looks like that lighter part might not be folding correctly, it looks like there is a rounded fold in there that should be more flat. Like i said not totally certain, maybe other cab owners can lower their top and look for you. When I lowered my top I would stand outside grab the middle of the front part of top (always grab middle so the bars bend even), and I would lift it and simultaneously fold the rear window nice and flat and make sure it all folded nice and flat with no creases.

Will do Chris, I appreciate the input.
I have a email out to Aircooled (Jim) down in Golden to see if we can compare notes on the tops going down.
We talked earlier today, but the visual goes a long way on this one.

Tony, did you check the straps that hold back a small bat at the fold line? The elastic straps on the metal bar inside could have frayed and snapped. That bar is supposed to move and make the top fold correctly as it's going down and keep it away from the locating pins.
No pics but check these out:

Yes, it looks like the fold is blocking the pins. I would get the top up right way as the pins will punture the canvas. There is an arm, which makes the fold to keep the canvas out of the way of the pins, that you may need to push back by hand while dropping the top if the above mentioned elastic is stretched. This is another good reason for raising/lowering the top manually.

Thank you Aircooled, Vincer, cpdjfd107, briefescape!!
Got it, I had the ah-ha moment and realize now how simple the issue is and
what to do when opening by hand.
My blocking pins were coming in contact with the cover top, not letting it close all the way down.
As soon as I moved the bar and canvas away ensuring it would not come in contact, it lays flush.
Now I really need that scratch free towel between the window and the canvas, because it does come in contact.
Excellent advice on that after realizing what it should lay down.
Cheers and you guys rock, thanks RL!

Ok, next project:
Paint my 996GT3 hardbacks.
Anyone remember seeing the thread that described how to remove the hard plastic backing from the seat so you can take that piece in for painting versus the whole seat?
Please post or PM if you did, many thanks!
