Picked up my newest purchase last night.. and drove her the 120 miles or so home.. love her.. A bit low on power, and a bit vague on steering so booked into Jaz of wembley tomorrow for PSS10's and a Fabspeed system to start. Havent decided what else to go with yet till i find out the state of the brakes and how it drives once the suspension is done. Not familiar with the tail on it. Was this a factory option? was tempted to revert back to the split electric tail but will see. tempted to go a bit nuts on fixing her up by trying to stay sensible. I'll always love my 964's more but shes a close second.
I think once you put a better suspension on (hint, put on Chris Walrod front control arm bushings) and a more focused alignment you will find your car is not vaque at all.
That is a beautiful car, enjoy!
tks guys.. yeah. i will reserve ovearall judgement on handling until the PSS10's are in. Im in the UK for a year. i guess i can get the Walrod control arm bushings shipped if i decide thats the way to go.
Very nice! I don't think that tail came from the factory and agree that the split grille looks best on the 993 S; make sure the electric tail wiring harness is there along with the manual switch in the center console. You'll find the PSS10's will be a vast improvement and will give you the best bang for your $$. Good luck and enjoy.
im in UK for a year.. unsure what im going to do when the time comes to leave. Came on a salvage title so it was approx half priced vs what a 97 c2s should go for. Im getting it checked out and made road/track worthy. I did what checks i could when i was looking at it yesterday. Has a full porsche service history, and its previous accident was in 2001.. drives well apart from a slight vague feel which should be fixed by the PSS10's. The only other checks i did were HPI for outstanding finance etc.
I discovered the same "vague feel" when I purchased my 98 C2S with 39k on the speedo, coming from a long line of newer Asian exotics. A year later with Walrod bushings, Pinned Tie Rods, New HDs, springs and sway bars, my car is anything but "vague" now. If new to this, you are in for a treat. The transformation is nothing short of amazing.
also grabbed this shot out of my window last night.. wish id done it with something better than my phone.. forget how good the curves on a widebody 993 look.
BTW: When you are ready to switch to the OE decklid or just want to sell the current tail, let me know. I might be able to help you with a decklid, hardware and everything except the split grill. Would be glad to trade for that RS clone tail!
I would imagine the Walrod bushings would be pretty cheap to ship to the UK, and I would suggest doing some work on the steering (inspect tie rods and wheel bearings), along with the CA bushings, at the same time as the PSS10s. Otherwise, if you decide it still isn't to your liking after the installation, you will end up paying more in labor as well as possibly another alignment (if you have it aligned after the coilover install).
But of course, it depends on how big of a deal it is to you. Have fun!
With that sort of history and the UK steering wheel position, think very carefully before committing to bringing it stateside. Check DOT regs too. It'll be a hard car to sell this side of the pond should you ever decide to do so.
