I never tried newspaper but we sell a lint free rag that works great for windows. I have been using the same one for 12+ years on my home windows, mirrors, cars, etc.

I use warm water in my wash bucket with a couple of cups of white vinegar. Baby diapers are the best for polishing and drying... I get them at Baby's R Us. Sometimes hard to find - but no lint and great absorption.

Large coffee filters work well too!

RODI water and newspaper works very well for a final wipedown after other window cleaner of choice.
