I wonder how many of MM's customers knew about the internet before they dropped their car off?
I think most people see the cheap price tag and think to themselves: "How bad could it really be?" We drive expensive cars...old or new and someone who picked up a used Porsche that has seen better days might feel like "well, I only drive it on the weekends..I don't need anything fancy...these guys can't be that bad...they have a huge shop...maybe I'll be one of the lucky ones that gets a good motor.."
Famous last words. Sometimes people are distracted by the shiny things and never get a chance to look at the underbelly. Darwinism at it's best. I remember years ago coming across their ads and thinking to myself "wow..that's a pretty good deal"...until I did a search here and on Google. NEXT!
Since I was the OP in this thread..when you call MM, it's hard to tell if he's brilliant or severely, intensely full of crap. I swear I heeded your cautions and didn't send him anything for repair!!!!
That car was, in fact, sold to an Rlister who is apparently trying to shoehorn an Audi V8 into a Boxster. Dunno, but I wish him well!
I stand before you all as one who has felt the wrath of Jerry and his merry band of idiots at MM. I was lied to, cheated and ripped off to the tune of $12,000. Still no working motor in hand...
Check the LA County BBB site and search Motor Meister...over a dozen folks like me who have been swindled by these guys for big bucks. I was duly warned before I sent my motor, but at the time just came off a bad deal with Imagine Auto in KC...where I lost about $4k. MM absolutely are professionals at taking your money for no service. DO NOT USE THESE LIARS AND CROOKS TO WORK ON YOUR PORSCHE.
Maybe some positiv recommendations should be given ? Who do you recommend in that area. Drop the engine and send it to?
The list is probably similar to the local PPI list.
Callas is not far in Torrance.
Also in the South Bay, I would check out, in no particular order,
Arredondo motor sports, Dutch Treat, Lomita 911.
Porsche Motor Sports is in Santa Ana. I would have no qualms having Chaz, 993C4RS, rebuild a motor. He works for Porsche Motor Sports and has a 993 himself.
