Car won't start after installing a new battery
95 - 993 C2, Car would not start, all lights dash lights on but when I turned the key the car doesn't crank. The battery was 6 yrs old so, I purchased a new battery and installed but have the engine still does not crank over.
Will take the new battery to the shop to have tested to make sure it is not faulty. I have put a trickle charge on the new battery and the needle keeps on jumping, does this indicate the new battery is faulty? In the meantime does anyone have any suggestions what other issues cause the
engine not to crank besides a possible faulty new battery?
Car ran well over the summer, but last few weeks I have had to put a trickle charger on the old battery to keep the charge up, but finally the battery did not seem to have enough amps to crank over the engine. Therefore ended up buying and installing a new battery.
Thanks for the input.

Thank you very much for the replies. The lights dont dim and the polarity is correct. How do you re-teach the fob immobilizer? Is this something that has to be done by the dealer?

The engine would still crank with a faulty DME, it just won't start. His engine won't crank at all.
Clean the terminals and the clamps, check the ground strap. Might also check the ground strap on the starter.

I'd first check if the starter solenoid lead is getting voltage when the ignition switch is in the "start" position.
If it is, then I'd check the cleanliness of the "power" cable at the starter solenoid (with the battery disconnected, of course).
If not, I'd check why the starter solenoid lead isn't getting power. Maybe the ignition switch is faulty in the "start" position. Ohm it out!
To the original poster, its worth investing in a Digital Multimeter and other very affordable test equipment such as a battery load tester. They cost next to nothing at Harbor Freight.

You could have a bad or out-of adjustment clutch microswitch. If so, it exhibits the very condition you describe. EZ way to determine is to just by-pass it and see if your car will start.

The O.P. has a 1995 993. I see you have one as well. My understanding is that it wasn't until 1997 that Porsche put that stupid micro-switch on the clutch pedal. But you have both years... is this true?
