Default Blinker seems not as loud. Any fixes?

I think that my turn signal has become more quiet. This is on a 97 with 45k miles. For the past year, I have not noticed a problem with this turn signal. Recently, I have experienced several instances where, after a mild turn, the signal doesn't get deactivated and I don't notice the usual clicking sound. If I pay attention, the click is present but not loud. It can easily be drowned out by the exhaust, leading me to drive for some time with the blinker on......

There were several threads like this, but none that I found had a fix and most said this was normal. I think mine was louder before.....

Has anyone done something to make the signal louder?

I thought about wiring a buzzer in parallel with the blinker relay which is behind the gas gauge. Never got around to it. To make it worse, with the white gauge faces it is hard to see the turn signal lights at dusk.

I think most of us would rather turn up the sound of the exhaust.

Personally I think the noise from my 993 turn signal is the quietest of any car I have, I don't know there's much to be done about that. You could try replacing the "flasher" but I have no clue if it's even in the cabin on these cars, it may be in the trunk. If that's the case it wouldn't do you much good. In older cars the flasher was a round cylindrical device up behind the dashboard but again no clue on the 993.

You are to be commended for actually using your turn signal though, not many around here know what it's for.

Wow......my 97 has 42,xxx miles and after a recent long weekend trip of about 800 miles I thought I noticed the turn signal being not a loud as it used to be...........I figured I was just imagining it.

.....And I thought I was the only one who felt like this. Not to mention the "open door chime" is very quiet too. I guess it's time for straight pipes.

This is the oddest question I've ever read in a car forum.

What viscosity blinker fluid are you using? As the weather gets colder, the noise may decrease if you recently switched from a 5 or 10 weight to a 0 weight fluid.

I read that if you drain all the blinker fluid it will get louder, but won't last as long. I found a DIY to drill a 3/64 hole in the base of the blinker to drain the fluid. The stuff that came out was very dark and foul smelling. My blinker got louder but it is now starting to slow down.

oh nooo... not the ol' blinker fluid debate again

If it's not engine oil or undertray, it's blinker fluid.
