Default Oktoberfest, Porsche Factory Tour & Museum - You Wanted Photos.... You Got 'em

So, as a retirement gift my son sent my wife and I off to Europe. He booked us a round trip ticket to Madrid Spain, a nice hotel for the first two nights and a first class Euro Rail pass for all of Europe. A great start! We took two light backpacks with no real schedule and left for three weeks on September 7.. I did get a reservation for the Porsche factory tour on September 22, so we had to make that and I had set it up to see my brother and his wife who live in Switzerland the weekend before that. The short of it is we hit 7 countries and 12 cities in 21 days. We made it as high as Amsterdam in Netherlands and down to Naples in Italy.

As luck would have it we were in Munich for Oktoberfest also. What a blast. I enjoy beer but I am a light weight. Two beers are about my limit these days. I kept my limit at Oktoberfest to the same, two beers. Oh….. oh….. their beers are big, and strong and good! The two beers put me on my butt. The people there were great. The beer halls were packed. The food was GREAT. Each hall had a band in the center. Each table greeted us as if we were their friends. Lots of singing and so forth. There were lots of carnival type rides too. But after my two beers it would not have been wise to go on them. And food everywhere. Good food. I will go back. I have too!

The Porsche factory tour was great. They would not allow any cell phones or camera on the tour. They collected them and locked them up. It was two full hours and took us to the engine assembly section, the upholstery shop and the assembly line. We were not shown the paint shop or the final completion line. Interesting tour. While waiting to go into the engine shop they drove up a 2012 911 GT3 RSR 4.0. And me without a camera, ugh. I enjoyed it very much. Then to the museum for another two hours of a tour with a handheld voice tour.

So, someone asked for photos. Here you go…. First the Porsche museum then Oktoberfest.

Chuck, thanks for posting! Amazing pictures and I am sure amazing memories.
I particularly like the 993's (of course) and the 959. Wow!

Also, was that Rusty Grizwald I saw under the beer tent?

Chuck, great photos and write up. All those car photos are amazing and you look like you had the time of your life!

So you made it as "high" as Amsterdam, huh? Hey, your words, not mine!
