Default back in BLACK

I just bought a black on black ’96. In a lot of ways it’s like coming home. The car feels so light and it is as much fun to throw around as I remember.

I’ve already seen some old friends here in the 993 section like Bill Verburg and Steve Weiner. It’s great to see you guys still here. I look forward to making some new friends too.

The car is an early 9/95 build with almost perfect interior including the steering wheel and shifter. It has only one option, LS-ABD and the factory LSD has been replaced with a Quaife TB LSD. I have actually never seen a 993 w/o the HiFi option. It is lowered on Bilstein HDs with M030 springs. The sways look stock. The wheels are 18” BBS LMs but the offset looks a little off to me. I definitely lost the tire lottery with the Sumitomo tires it came with. Other than the above, the car is stock.

The alignment is off a little and the car perceptibly pushes left under acceleration and pulls right under deceleration. With numerous 16-year-old rubber bushings there are surely some worn ones in need of replacement. The car also needs a CV boot replacement. Other than that it is a nice platform to start from.

Here are a few cell phone pics:

Future mods:
I don’t think I could ever get enough of the RS mods. There are a lot of new options it appears that were not available before with several companies selling knock-off RS splitters, skirts and tails. I contacted Gert at Carnewal.com and see that the authentic RS wheels are still available—at a price! I want to keep the car a street car as I have a lot more mouths to feed these days than in the old days leaving little to no time for the track. That said, It will be hard not to add the appropriate RS suspension pieces as they make such a huge difference in the way the car handles.

Anyway, I look forward to reengaging with the community as I am sure I will find lots of things to fix, modify and improve. I hope I haven’t forgotten everything.

Looking forward to helping out where I can.

Thanks,
Hank

Welcome back! Regarding the tires, a lot of people here swear by the Sumitomo HTR Z III. I personally haven't used them but the consensus is that they are very good tires. Unless of course you have some other version...

Awesome, looking forward to more of your posts. And pics of the interior when you have a chance.

I think it looks perfect as-is.

Black cars are awesome. I just can't stand the constant cleaning since they show every spec of dirt. That is why for myself I like my silver car. From a distance it always looks clean. But as I said, black cars do look awesome.

of course black is best! and as to Sumi tires - I really like mine - great value and handling is solid. best tire out there? - probably not - but for a street car - can't go wrong. enjoy the new car!!!!

That's really a good looking 993. Love the wheels and gloss on the paint. Congratulations.

Nice pic's-for a cellphone or a DSLR. The car looks beautiful!

For the price, the Sumi's are not a bad tire. Depends on what you want them for.

Welcome back to the forum. Look forward to your contributions
