why did you purchase a 993 vs a 964?

I've been through a 993, 996, 911 and back to a 993.
For me it's the air cooled engine first and foremost. I sold my 993 to purchase a 996 because I wanted more creature comforts. In the end I wound up with a luxury car with a high performance engine (I say that with the utmost respect as I really did enjoy my 996 Targa).
I currently own an '88 911 and the 993. For me the 993 is the best car Porsche made. I love the sound of it, the rawness and, best of all, the curves. There just isn't anything like it. I know the water cooled variants are faster and have many more of the things we expect in a modern car, but for me it's the sound and rawness that the car delivers.

I have owned a 964 C2, a 930, a 993TT and now a 964T. I have no plans to move ahead in years and it isn't due to cost
They are both amazing platforms and I can't see anyone being unhappy with one vs the other.

I've owned an SC for over ten years before looking for the 993 that I eventually bought. The 964 represents the second to last step toward the end of the aircooled era. I was looking for the iconic final model of the series.

In addition to the above, the car has better brakes, and I believe an improved ABS. Standard wheels at 7" and 9", optional 8" and 10", not the case with a 964, only get 7" front, 8" rear. There are lots of other differences,,,they just don't come to mind right now.

hmm...
I was with ya until Lady Gaga hit the stage
The GT3 is "rawer" and more visceral than a stock or slightly modified 993. The 997 GT3 is rough, out of the box. I'm not just saying that because I have one now... it really is.
The AC is better, but that is about as far as it goes from a comfort standpoint.
Clutch is stiff (no assist), suspension is jarring on Ca. roads... etc.
and I love it!
But My 2WD 993 turbo with PSS9s was more comfortable. And just as quick in a straight line too!
That said, I still want another 993 to go with it. Some day...
Now back to our regularly scheduled program
I had a 964 and loved it.
Some local friends who had 993s were to blame for my move to the "new" car.
The curves are sublime... and all of the other model improvements people have mentioned were very nice too.

For me, it was mostly the looks of the car over the 964.
And, I had to have a car with that cool Carrera 4S logo on the back. It was all about the rear badge and wide hips for me. The front end ain't too bad either.
HFY - (Hell frickin' yeah...)

But of course that sensation is subjective to the eyes of the beholder. The RS is pure speed with all the sensations coming with it.
But when you watch this vid, things will change...LOL..

Maybe Lady Gaga lost her make-up kit. Just kidding. Ill post a vid soon so you can hear the ITBs at full song. My bro actually says that is what he cant do to his RS. He has be researching for an ITB kit but nada. Rothsport is still developing one.
