why did you purchase a 993 vs a 964?
I am trying to decide if I want to buy a 964 or 993 and was looking to see why you guys chose to purchase a 993. Thanks for your opinions.

Because it is the sexiest car on the planet.......unless you're talking bout a 965....couldn't afford one...lol

Yesterday I took my bike to work, and when i'm on it I find I see a lot more. In front of me in traffic there was a 964, and it did look really nice. I had ages to look at it. It really is a classic shape 911. It sounded great as well.
But the 993 just has the curves and just looks so damn sexy. The chick in the 964 thought she was pretty hot as well. Actually she was. The 993 really is the ultimate shape in my opinion and I'm so lucky to have one. |

I like them both but the styling of the 993 is what inspired me to go in that direction. The 993 is also the last generation of the air cooled cars as well. Not that it will have any significance down the road in terms of resale pricing as my car is not a garage queen and will probably have lots of miles on it when I decide to sell it.
I believe I have read somewhere on RL that the AC was improved with the introduction of the 993. Someone will probably chime in on this if I am mistaken which, according to my wife, is a relatively common occurrence. |
993=hydraulic lifters, multilink rear suspension, great curves, cool headlights, last of the air-cooled 911s, more hp and torque, 6 speed. I do like them both but the 993 won my heart....twice!

I'll tell ya why. I was at a red light, and an older guy rolled down his window and said, " That's one god damn sexy car you got there"!

But who has time to clean them? :icon107:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4.../IMG_0002m.jpg In all seriousness, when I see threads showing oil line leaks on pre-993 cars, and the dirt & road grime that has accumulated around these components, it makes my stomach turn (well, maybe not that part). Not the case with a 993. Andreas |
"Not quite as radically new as the 911 had been from the 356 in 1965, Type 993 Carrera models retained only the roof and the front deck lid of the previous type 964 Carrera 2 and 4." As written in the Porsche 911 Buyer's Guide written by Randy Leffingwell.

For me it was many of the reasons posted already.... plus a C4 was a requirement. The 964 fell off my list at that point due to the weight, complexity, and cost to repair its "sputnik" AWD system.

Welcome.
A few years ago, when I decided to get a 911, I bought Paul Frere's book "Porsche 911 Story" to do my basic research. I picked the 993 over the 964 because of it's bigger trunk (I planned to use it for touring), and the multi link rear suspension (I was looking for isolation of road noise). But my short list was actually the 993 and 997. :D |
Is this a trick question?????
Really?????

I love the quote in the 993 Essential Companion made by a Porsche factory employee: "The 993 is everything the 964 should have been had we had the money".
