You'll want to find a local place to prep and powder coat, as shipping them will not be cheap.

Yep, find someone local. Maybe ask around either on here or your local club members and see if anyone can recommend someone. Also, Andreas had a post not too long ago when he did his - search member threads from AOW162435.

I am getting ready to do this in the Chicago area and there are a ton of powder coaters, you may have the same problem of just trying to narrow down to the good ones.

You can also DIY it with a kit from G2 or Duplicolor. That is what I do and have really been happy with the results. You can do them on the car. No disassembly required. I purchased the decals from ebay and then sprayed them with hi-temp clear. The finish is very tough and lasts for years.

Bumping an ancient thread to see if anyone knows the dimensions of the decals on the 993 calipers? I found some for sale on Ebay as Fister suggested but not sure if they are the right size. Mine were stripped off before being measured.

Thanks!

Darin,
There probably wont be any color change using this method, right? This is just to freshen when the clear peels?

i just refreshed the clear coat also.
well spent $8 and 3 hours.

old thread, i know
but
if you change color, consider painting, not powder coating.
just attended lecture by brembo tech guru.

he said powder coating is a no -no since most coaters bake at too high a temp.
anything over 203 degrees F is not good.

I had success with just clear coat on a former 993. Need to do the same with my current 993.

Refreshing the old thread again...My Big Red's clear is also peeling off. Just wondering if there is no color change, can I just reapply the clear coat again without the red paint? Wouldn't that look uneven? also how do I remove the decal?

If I remember correctly, I was some impressive results by just redoing the clear coat with the proper high temperature product. I think you have nothing to loose ...

Nice AC / Esco stands. They are great!

My clear coat peeled off, and I just reapplied high temp lacquer after peeling off as much of the old chunks I could.

Although they look better, they still look a bit dull, and every time I look at them I think, "man, I really need to get those redone."

Now the question... Do I get them rebuilt, or just resprayed? They seem to be just fine, but why not since I'll be taking them off?

Another question... Do shops usually sandblast the calipers, or just paint over the old stuff?

If you're going to repaint the calipers, do it with fresh color as well as the clear. Makes a huge difference in terms of the final product.

I did this almost 2 1/2 years ago using the VHT products and ebay vendor stickers. After 20+K miles, the calipers still look great. Granted this was on the Cayenne, but the process is the same.

Mine had some similar issues, but not as extensive as yours. I just cleaned them and sprayed high temp clear coat (VHT brand) and they look a lot better. It is hard to tell where the dull parts were now. If I was really fussy, I'd likely repaint them entirely. But they look good enough for my needs for now.
